What areas of Denver are safe for an overnight stay?

We are thinking about staying in the Greenwood Village/Tech Center of Denver overnight on a road trip. Generally, I try to avoid Communist controlled cities, but there is a reason I need to be in southeast Denver briefly.

I'd appreciate advice on avoiding the worst the city has to offer including traffic, crime and stoners.

I’ve lived in Denver Metro for 40÷ years. Stay as far away from downtown as you can. And don’t ride the train downtown. Union Station has a lot of crime. I’m in the north west area near Flat Irons Crossing Mall. It’s a high tech area with lots of good hotels and restaurants. I feel pretty safe here. No tents anywhere. Unfortunately it’s 30 miles from SE denver.

I don’t know what Denver is like these days but I lived downtown, 19th and Sherman…

Back then, the rule was to stay away from any area north of 20th.

Panhandlers on 16th Street were annoying, all able-bodied young white males who grew up in affluence in Boulder. “Crust punk” is the subculture.

Circa 1976 i lived in Casper, Wyoming but I and wife person would drive down to Denver to Shop on occasion. I did not carry a weapon back then though it would have been legal. There was not need of such. I would never consider shopping in Denver today without a weapon. I thus choose to not shop in Denver.

I forgot to add. I am most proficient with small arms. I wish not to use them to kill. I will if there is not analternative.

Stay far away from the Toll Roads, it is a horrific extortion racket of false billing by camera, has been going on for decades, most people cover their plates and stay away

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Denver, but I considered some of the worst places to be anywhere along Colfax, the area in the vicinity of Federal & Alameda, pretty much all of Aurora, downtown and the area just north of downtown(actually the areas just north, south, east and west of downtown.)

If you need to be near the Tech Center, that’s not a bad place to stay.

By a long long shot

A hotel in Lone Tree will put you in a safe location with many original restaurants within a mile. It’s close to I-25 and the tech area. If you ask for a room, high up, facing northwest, you should get a nice view of downtown and the mountains. If you need to save money, try for a Hampton Inn off of County Line Road, west of I-25. If you like Mexican Food, try Brewery Bar or Los Dos Patrillos, which will be close to where you’ll be.

Greenwood Village/Tech Center should be no problem though it does get a bit “deserted” after dark and on weekends.

Bob Seger should think about updating his lyrics to “Get Out Of Denver” because “you look just like a commie and you might just be a member” seems to suggest that Denver was not commie-friendly at the time.

>> It’s not all that bad, just stay away from Colfax Ave... <<

I’m surprised to hear Colfax Ave and Aurora singled out as being bad. I’d heard that Denver had declined greatly, though, since I was there over half a century ago. I used to ride my bicycle downtown along Colfax Ave with no concern at all. There was a park on the right that had a pond and a museum of natural history. It seemed like a nice place. There were some areas, I believe, near the railroad station around Larimer Street that seemed a bit like a slum, though.

Live in western CO and visit Denver frequently. We stay in the Cherry Creek area, good shopping and excellent restaurants. Nice area to walk, beautiful upscale homes abound.

Have you checked if your concealed carry license (If you have one) is good here?

I live in north Denver, and carry everywhere.
LOADS of homeless psychotic zombies in many areas.

Having been attacked downtown Denver in broad day light .... and having been advised by the Denver DA that no one in their office goes out at night, I would have to advise against it.

Recommend staying in surrounding communities or not going out at night.
