I was notified several weeks ago to report for Jury Duty today. A responsibility of all American citizens and one that I was proudly called to be a part of. I am a resident of Gwinnett County Georgia. In the process, we were shown a 12-minute video explaining why it was a civic responsibility of all Americans. First of all, the video was over 10 years old, but most glaringly, it was filled with multiple false statements.
One of the most glaring false comments that stuck with me was that they said America is a Federated Democracy. I did my best to bring this to the attention of several 'leaders'. Of the six that I asked, everyone looked at me with a blank stare. They all said that they would make note of this statement and a few others that I also brought to their attention. Nothing was ever written down and I had no avenue to write my concerns.
The word Democracy does not appear in the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.
Does this one statement bother anyone or am I just blowing things up?
That was how I was dismissed from federal jury duty in Arizona seven or eight years ago. I raised my hand and told the judge (respectfully) that I had no wish to be disruptive, but that I wasn’t happy about waiving my right to judge the law. He thanked me for expressing my concern and dismissed me at once.
Perhaps not coincidentally, I haven’t been summoned to jury duty since, federal or state.
Seems to be the same way in Michigan. I’ve been called...something like 6 times in 18 years of being eligible. Others I know never get called. It seems to be either they pester you constantly, or never.
I’ve been called for jury duty a few times. Only twice did I make it to the preemptory challenge stage and was rejected both times. But next week I turn 70 so I will be excused permanently both at the state and federal level. I was once called for federal jury duty but it was delayed due to covid and I was eventually dismissed. I would never have made it past the preemptory challenge stage on that one because it was a potential death penalty case and I had dealings with the defendant during the course of my LE career. In the questionnaire I filled out I described what a sociopath the defendant was and gave multiple reasons to substantiate my position. I’m guessing I would never have even made it to the preemptory challenge stage. In the end the defendant got two consecutive life sentences.
“This probably isn’t gonna come out right but considering you’ve never served, with all due respect your comment is uninformed.”
No, I just feel bad for the people whose fates end up in the hands of twelve people who couldn’t get out of jury duty.
Plus, I’m hoping for the case where some idiot gun law is in question.
“They” being the attorneys closely aligned with the deep state. In Kyle Rittenhouse’s and Trump’s case, it is the prosecution.
One thing that I can say is that if you’re questioned their narrative, you’ll likely not be chosen to sit on a jury. They don’t want ‘thinking’ people. They want mind-numbed robots who will eat up the prosecutions’ spiel and smack their lips and vote to convict.
Both crimes were caught on security camera video, so our deliberations were pretty cut and dried. We returned guilty verdicts on both counts after 45 minutes.
The state and defense counsel loved to hear themselves speak and each side presented a mountain of evidence, so the trial lasted about a month. (Ugh!) The only evidence we looked at was the video. That's why we took so little time for deliberations.
If called again, I would report, despite the possibility of a lengthy trial.
No long term effects, but that might because there were no grisly crime scene photos.
Getting out of jury duty isn’t as easy as you (and others) may think it is.
Trust me, the Judge has heard it all.
If you ever get called you’ll see.
With rare exceptions, deliberately “getting out of” jury duty is for cowards.
I only commented AFTER I was not selected.

They actually improved it i my county.
My previous experiences you were there ALL DAY.....now the clerk of courts new rule is if your not called by 11:30 they cut you loose.
Staying all day for nothing really pisses people off......especially if their employer doesn’t pay.
Cut loose before noon is good.
Both times I actually showed up at the courthouse, I was already empaneled by 1130 ...
Mine was quick also. Only a simple burglary by 3 dudes on foot.....but they had a very large flat screen tv unplugged and staged at the front door.....think about that. SMH
I was called up to be “sorted out” 1 time in the mid-80’s. They somehow knew that My current (1st) Wife’s maiden name and I was asked if that’s who She was and when I answered Yes the judge told Me that I “knew too many people” because of Her Father owning one of the best BBQ Restaurants in downtown Austin for 20 years or so.
I never even met the Man because He Passed away before We started dating.
The other time was in the early 90’s and the case was a Mechanic at the Nissan Dealership who hurt his back installing a transmission. As soon as I was determined to be a Owner of a Jaguar/Rolls Royce repair shop I was outta there !
So getting called for jury duty doesn't bother me. I always wanted to sit on an actual trial. I finally got my wish about 10 years ago, when I was put on a first degree murder trial. It was big enough of a trial that it got some local media coverage.
The trial lasted about 7 days and I was fascinated with the entire process, such as the opening statements, the examination and cross-examaination of witnesses, the subject matter experts, and then finally the closing arguments. We even got put on a bus with police escorts and visited the murder scene.
As the stakes were very high for the defendant, the defense attorney got very theatrical at times. We ended up convicting him in about three hours. There wasn't a single juror that was wavering but we asked to review some of the evidence so we could get a free lunch (true story) before rendering our early afternoon verdict of Guilty on all charges. The food provided us was pretty good, I must say.
It was one of those drug murders. Stupid all around. I also learned how easy it was for law enforcement to get cell phone data that put the defendant on the spot of the murder when it was going down.
I would definitely serve on a jury again if I got the opportunity. Good experience.
I also recommend bringing a good book to read as there is a lot of downtime in the juror room and the rest of the jurors were watching stupid shows on the TV.
I have never been seated on a jury, which sucks, because I would take my responsibility to judge both the facts of the case and the law itself quite seriously.
A lot of down time BEFORE you get called for a jury pool as well.
Through experience, last 2 times I started carrying a backpack with a cold bag for lunch, snacks and drinks.....and phone charger. 😉
I would ask for the Governing Documents of the Federated Democracy so you could comply with those laws and rules since you are unfamiliar with the term Federated Democracy. If these documents are not available then you would be unqualified to serve on the Jury. Of course they may answer that the Judge will tell you how to rule. Of course the answer would be that you are unable to determine if a judge has such powers without reviewing the Federated Democracy documents.

I sure learned something from that idiotic statement & now I’m glad I was never picked for jury duty. My wife was picked several times, but always disqualified for a hearing disability. Can’t figure out why they didn’t figure that one out after a couple tries. I have no hearing disability,but was never called in all my years. I had sat in court as an observer a couple times & discovered that the judge spoke so softly he could barely(if at all) be heard. There was a definite problem that no one pursued as far as I know.
