The crucial Nov. 3 special election in upstate New York features two candidaties -- liberal Republican Dede Scozzafava and Democrat Bill Owens -- connected to the Working Families Party (WFP) which is the New York political arm of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).
<snip>
With both Big Labor and ACORN working to defeat the Conservative -- who is also being attacked by the national GOP Establishment -- Hoffman's campaign is sending out a nationwide call for volunteers to help match the "community organizers" being brought into the 23rd District by his major-party opponents.
"We need boots on the ground," said the Hoffman campaign source. "We need to push back."

Has everyone seen this: “The Most Important Number in Politics Today.”
Doug Hoffman is the Conservative alternative in this race (or Hoffman by PayPal). He has said he will caucus with the Republicans if elected, so if you are concerned about who he would support for speaker, or whether he will get committee assignments, he will be on board with the Conservative Republicans.
Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.
Scozzafava also holds these positions:
Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.
This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat. Mark Steyn has coined the term DIABLO for her and others like her. Democrat In All But Label Only.
There are also at least 17 unprincipled DIABLO enablers in the House who have donated funds or otherwise supported to this LibeRal democRat's DIABLO’s campaign. They include Boehner, Cantor, Pete Sessions, Hensarling, Brown-Waite and McCotter. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year.
Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

Candidates I support: Doug Hoffman for Congress, NY 23rd (PayPal), David Harmer for Congress, CA 10th (website for info). Please, spread the word about these important special elections on November 3, 209: New York’s 23rd congressional district and California’s 10th congressional district. |
PLEASE New Yorkers!!!!! GET OUT and WALK for this man!!!!!
OH How I wish I was there to help.
FReep mail me if you want on/off the list.
The Democrats have this one, courtesy of the split vote. The district will be no worse off for having a Democrat that it would be with the GOP Democrat In All But Label Only. But maybe it will serve as a warning to Newt and those idiot RINOs in the GOP of what’s going to happen in 2010 if they don’t come home.
I think Sarah Palin needs to get down there and stump for Hoffman. By endorsing Hoffman Sarah, inadvertently, made the race Sarah versus the Democrat and the Republican candidates. Sarah’s credibility as a conservative voice is now on the line and she needs to pull out all the stops. If the Democrat wins Sarah will be blamed, and if the Republican wins Sarah will be named insignificant. The only way for this thing to work out is if Sarah rallies some major support for Hoffman by stumping for him. With massive emotional support Hoffman could pull of an upset.
Newt Gingrich was on one of the Fox shows this morning going on and on and on about outsiders coming in and trying to take over the election process and push out the so called republican candidate in favor of Hoffman.
I think he was talking about Sarah Palin and he sounded kinda hateful to me about it. Kept pushing the outsiders coming in taking over point until I wanted to smack my TV and scream; “ENOUGH ALREADY!!”
You might be right. I still think this race is a virtual toss up. It depends on the voters November 3. I do think that a potential problem blue dog for Pelosi might be better than a DIABLO/RINO problem for Boehner. The only remotely positive thing about Scozzafava is that she might just switch parties after she is elected, allowing the Republicans to run a primary with no incumbent next year. An Owens victory would also have that advantage.

I am pretty sure that if this district could pick their own Republican candidate in a fair primary, they would have someone closer to Hoffman than Scozzafava. If that happens, they have elected relatively conservative Republicans with margins as high as 2 to 1 (66% of the total vote going to the Republican).
While that might cement your vote in the Hoffman column, I don’t know how it would help Hoffman in his district. He has been taking some heat in the local press lately for not being as knowledgeable about local issues that are important to the district.

He has a bit of an image as the outsider candidate, supported by far away interests. Palin’s endorsement brings a lot more out of district money into this race. A campaign stop by Palin could reinforce that negative. McCain/Palin lost this district last year.
An endorsement and support from John McHugh, the congressman this district elected last year with 65% of the vote would be better for him. I doubt that will happen, but I am certain it would be far better for him in the final vote total than a Palin campaign appearance.
I am downloading the video from that right now (Stuck at a location with only dialup, so it will take 30+ minutes for the video file to get here). The video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09bm6pMRXmM and it is being discussed on the thread, “Newt goes "Saul Alinsky" on Sarah Palin's endorsement of Doug Hoffman (Fox & Friends interview).”

Newt is probably hearing the RCCC’s concern about how much money they are wasting on this lost seat. I think I saw they threw another $300,000 on the fire yesterday or today. Club for Growth, SaraPAC, several other PACs plus all the individual donors have flooded Hoffman with money. Owens has had Obama at a fundraiser, plus the lefty blogs have been heavily supporting him. The RCCC is being outspent, and having to spend enormous amounts of money to play “catch up.”

I just saw that clip. Newt was approaching unhingement in that clip IMO. Who the hell is he to be complaining about Republican outsiders (i.e. Palin)? Where is Newt Gingrich from?
Thanks for the links!
I don’t know. But if he’s not from there then he’s an outsider too.
Newt has attacked Hoffman as being an outsider, and I don’t think it is productive for Hoffman to fight that too strongly. Hoffman should be saying that he is a fellow New Yorker and that what is good for New York State is good for the district.
The reason I think Sarah should stump for Hoffman is because she would draw a large crowd, after the large crowd is drawn it would be Hoffman’s job to communicate his message. I donated to the man, based on the fact that Sarah endorsed him. He stands for the right things but I think he could use a little help firing people up. Sarah and McCain may have lost in the district, but I would be surprised if Sarah went to a rally and nobody attended.
Just my take.
He isn’t running to be the next Senator for the state of New York. He is running to be the Representative for the 23rd district. There is a difference.

BTW, Newt is an idiot on this. Hoffman has a business with five locations within the district. His immediate family owns and operates another dozen or more businesses, all located within the 23rd district. His family has several homes within the district. He does live just outside the district, but has said he will move to a home in the district when he is elected. The local news stories seem to discount any talk of him being a “carpetbagger.”
But he has been asked questions about issues important to the people in his district. What he thinks of winter navigation on the St. Lawrence Seaway, what his position is on the “Rooftop highway,” Interstate 98. He needs to have answers on those issues. To his credit, he has not dodged the questions (much). I hope he makes the only debate being held within the district on this coming Wednesday.
But Sara Palin can’t help him with local issues. She doesn’t know this district, hasn’t lived in this district, and actually is an outsider.
I like Sara Palin. I voted for her for VP last year. But if she came to my district and tried to campaign for a Congressional candidate, I doubt it would influence me much. I doubt she knows the issues facing Hernando County, Florida either. But I do expect a candidate to represent me to understand the issues down here in my district.
I am sure that Doug Hoffman appreciates your donation. It enables him to do things he couldn’t have done without those funds. I also have donated. But I didn’t do it because I think I know how to run his campaign. I did research the district some, and the positions of the man who won with 65% of the vote last year. If this district seemed like it was completely in line with Scozzafava’s positions, I would have stayed out of it. The truth is, Hoffman is closer to what McHugh was than either of the other two candidates. I am standing up to the idiots who selected the wrong candidate for the Republicans, and the idiots in Washington who went along with that wrong choice.

I was already going to ask about the phone banks. I can do that from here in FL.
AmericanInTokyo wrote:
That would be: a) those with Skype so they don't run their phone bills up, start calling voters in the NY district to get them to the polls or remind them; b) those that can write, start hitting local letters to the editor and blogs; c) those that can cyber-canvass senior citizen homes or shut-ins throughout the 23rd, find out who will vote for Doug, get a name and address, and forward to the campaign so on election day they can get vans and cars out to run those folks to the polls and back home; d) Freep polls, e) call and write RNC in D.C. to keep putting pressure on them to back off; f) call and write major national GOP officials in their own districts who can be called upon to ask Ms. Scuzzafava to drop out of the race, and g) many more I have not thought about. Let's take this baby NATIONALLY!!
For letters to the editor and blog entries, Hoffman has a “Volunteer Media Kit” on his website at http://www.doughoffmanforcongress.com/files/Volunteer%20Media%20Kit.pdf.
The RNC isn’t the problem in this race, it is the National Republican Congressional Committee. They are the ones spending the big bucks supporting Scozzafava, and they aren’t backing down for a few phone calls. Although I guess it might not hurt to melt their phone lines. Perhaps we can try this tomorrow. I'll get numbers and get back on this. We should be asking for them to dump Dede, and perhaps also ask them to start supporting David Harmer in CA-10.

Freepers MUST take action, either in donations or in volunteering.
To do otherwise is like some of these people we see hang around at campaign offices, just talking and drinking coffee, disturbing the other volunteers and not getting anything done. That generates no votes.
Let us all get a piece of work to do over the next week and do it from our homes if need be, by remote access. Thanks again for your proactive suggestions. I will try some of them. For starters, just because I would relish it to tell off some RINOs and I am in a bad mood anyways this week, I am going to tear the NRCC a new one on some e-mails over this Scuzzyflavor business. We can be anywhere from Boise Idaho to Chad or Vanuatu to be able to do that nowadays.
Sarah Palin has made the point better than I have been able to, so I will just quote her “The votes of every member of Congress affect every American, so it’s important for all of us to pay attention to this important Congressional campaign in upstate New York.” (Palin)
I am from Alaska so her point about every member of Congress affecting every American resonates with me. In Alaska we have one Representative in Congress, so every Alaskan is represented by that Representative. It is hard to imagine that economic factors in northern New York State could be so diverse that a man living in a district would be unqualified to represent adjacent district. If the race was for the State house then I would agree that Hoffman’s residency would be a legitimate issue, but he is running for Congress.
If electing a Representative to the house comes down to ensuring that pork is delivered to an individual district within a state, then I don’t know what to say. It just seems to me that a Federal level legislator should be focused on State and Federal level issues, not district level issues. Anyway, we are both on the same side of this issue, pretty much, so I am not going to beat a dead horse. From now on I am going to sit back and see what happens.
Newt still doesn’t get it.Maybe he will if he decides to run and when he looses and he will then he’ll blame it on conservatives instead of him and his cronies being out of touch
so it’s not alright from outsiders to come there and help the conservative but it is alright for him as an outsider to help a RINO
