Since they FIRED Ito, Honda is back on track.
I drive a 1996 Accord. I replaced the engine. 280k miles and going strong. I could afford a new one but why?
Ping.
I had a 1984 Toyota 4x4 pickup, then an ‘94 and now still have a ‘2004 Tacoma, but I stopped right there. The next iteration was just too ugly and the latest is only a little better.
Never had a Honda Car, but all my dirtbikes are Honda’s, My XR650R is still the big dog offroad.
Camry > Accord.
I’m surprised you had to replace the engine.
The headlights and grill make it look like it is smiling.
My 2003 Accord has a very annoying habit of locking doors seemingly at random.
I get out of the car and close the driver door and my rear door is locked. Click to open and get out some of my stuff and close the door and try to open the driver door and it is locked. Open the trunk and close it and the doors lock.... Very frustrating and all according to Japans plan to get revenge for WW2.
I had a 1981 pickup and currently have a 1998 4wd Tacoma. They did get uglier and uglier.
Honda used to have some nice, conservatively styled cars. Seems like all the manufacturers are into the ugly space-ship designs.
I was devastated to trade in my 00 Accord in 2014 but it was time...One of the best cars I ever had....I think having it garaged made a difference also.
There is an Acura RL for sale locally. It’s an up-badged AWD Accord. I may have to trade the truck for it. The truck is 2wd with no slip differential. And it is snowing.
Uh-oh. I hope he took the news well...
I’m leery of turbo engines. From the longevity standpoint.
I know they are all the rage, just wondering if you wanted to keep a car 10+ years whether a turbo could make it.
One other question.
I remember when turbos first came out there was a warning about towing, that the turbo would be kicked in and burn up.
I had an Accord, ‘83. Great car, sold it to a relative . Had 200,000+ miles on it and I’m not sure it didn’t go beyond that.
I think the auto trans would die before the turbo. It would be a neck and neck race. LOL
Turbos cannot run without the engine running.
No, he did not.
It’s a Japanese thing that at 65 (perhaps it’s 68 or so) a President is expected to step down and then become a member of the Board of Directors.
The 2012 Civic was a disaster because Ito stopped process of making first run test components to look for engineering flaws.
Ito went from computer to production and the Civic was, as I stated, a disaster.
When Ito hit the age limit, he refused to leave the Presidency, instead opted to take a 35% decrease in his salary for, I think, six months due to the problems with the Civic.
The board cautioned him to retire, and he did not leave.
They kicked him in the ass and showed him the door - no BOD position.
Maybe. I always theorized it was the death of Mr. Honda. But I have no hard evidence.
