I saw Metallica with The Cult at the Gulf Coast Coliseum back in the 80’s sometime.

Show was amazing! I couldn’t hear for a week.

Oh, I forgot to mention I like Depeche Mode too... gay though they are.

I remember listening to Mode on the way to the concert lol. Think there was some smoke in the car, can’t remember.

“Sonic Youth - The Diamond Sea

I like it. Added it to my 90s playlist. I have heard the band name, but I’m not familiar with anything by them. Harks back to something from the 70s.

lol

The Cult! I’ve not heard that name in many a year. :)

I like gay bands too. Liked Air Supply and they LITERALLY are gay. Liked the Gin Blossoms, not exactly a manly band :)

But my mainstay is the hard stuff.

Think there was smoke, can’t remember lol!!

I didn’t smoke, JD was my thing. But the contact high was brutal.

Hah, I fkin’ love Air Supply :D

Back then, I couldn’t drink, still can’t really. Most hard liquors are too manly for me, except for some Patron Tequila in a margarita.

But every now and then I just like to drink two Abita Beers (Andygator). that gets me where I need to be. No more smoking either, I’d just rather be sober these days.

But ooooh back in the day...

Never listened to much Depeche Mode but listened to this for the first time. A fair song, but seems to be more of a call to faith. Are they a Christian band?

Revisit the video in context of the lyrics. It’s the opposite.

I only smoked like 5 or 6 times i think.

Nothing manly about killing your liver :)

It’s just we commoners can’t get the real anesthetics :)

what makes this is a very interesting song is that you can read the text in about fifty different ways

it’s meaningful straight... and also meaningful read in other ways

what there is of a music scene around here is almost entirely country and Christian music, neither of which suits my fancy

there’s one guy locally who is pretty darn incredible though, made the looking worthwhile

It can be taken both ways. But on second close reading, it is not intended toward faith in Christ. “Take second best
Put me to the test” is from the song. Jesus “second best?” not quite; the band is definitely not Christian.

That line is best understood as “compare me to the second best”

I was born in 1957 and I remember rockabilly and early Beatles and stones....screaming 15 year old girls stuff and beach boys and Motown and stax and muscle shoals and chess and commercial too forty like monkeys and Archie’s and Dave Clark five and grass roots and Gary Puckett and so on

I’d say my peak formative years were fm progressive rock with albums like exile on Main Street and let in bleed or yayas figuring

And led Zep one thru hoth

Ditto southern rock

And banger stuff like sabbath

And eccentric stuff like Tull and yes and wishbone ash
And Floyd and Peter Green Mac...and Kirwin and Welch Mac and Buckingham Nicks before Mac

The Dead and that mountain hippie stuff like Poco and New Riders and Fogleberg

And revolution rock like Airplane and Ten Years After

Then punk and early new wave hit late 70s finally killing disco thank you Jesus

Joy Divison and talking heads and even before television and Jonathon richman and so on...bahaus music too

Then 80s new wave hit....my wife’s music peak years her being 50ish now

Depeche Mode and the Police and and the Cure..my fav... and Furs and inxs an dlove and rockets and yes even REM.....and tom petty was new wave then

Then the last lead guitar bands like GNR and Crüe and my favorite The Cult

Then Grunge

The jack shite pretty much ...a smattering here and there....
Peppers and Jack White

Blackberry Smoke....like Skynyrd

I like Upchurch white boy southern rap with country beat and rebel flags and four wheelers and Copenhagen ....straight outta cheatham county TN where my daughter and hubby and my grandson live

Alt right hillbilly rap

That’s my music history briefly done....I told you my leak years but I kept listening to contemporary music and still do when something strikes me

I like Bach cello works like yo yo ma

I’m listening to old Rory Gallagher right now feebly typing while wifey sleeps

I left out Zappa and Beefheart.....both acquired tastes.....Troggs too..lol

That. Was. Excellent.

Scott Boyer of Cowboy died last week. Wrote “Please Be With Me” that Duane Allman played so wonderfully on.

Thumbs up for the Buckingham Nicks!
