The Trump administration seems to be leaning towards allying with the oil refining industry in its fight against Big Corn and federal rules requiring the use of corn ethanol.
Reuters reports that the U.S. EPA apparently granted an exemption to Andeavor, a large oil refiner, from having to comply with blending requirements as part of the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) last month. The RFS requires refiners to blend biofuels, such as corn ethanol, into their refined fuels. If they cant or find it too costly, they are required to purchase credits.
The law dates back to 2007 under the George W. Bush administration, and is intended to cut crude oil demand and improve U.S. energy security. It has brought a windfall to corn country, although the environmental benefits have always been suspect.
The oil refining industry hates the law, because it forces them to pay for biofuels or pay for credits in lieu of blending ethanol into their fuel.

I have a BIG TRUCK and tried using SMALL OIL but it wouldn’t start and had to go back to BIG OIL.
What are you even talking about? Do you have a clue of how the distillation process works? Apparently somebody failed chemistry 101.
But, but wait!
We have so much ethanol we cannot burn it.
Oh noes!
I expect to hear the raise the fuel standard to 15% by tomorrow.
Bastards.
You got that right. The price of gas should be under $2.00 per gallon.
15% ethanol will kill more engines than “cash for clunkers”
Corn no longer to be used to produce ethanol?
Then beef, egg, bacon, pork, etc prices will drop in half, because that corn will then be used to feed cattle, again.
Electric cars use electricity to charge their batteries, 85% of which is produced by burning coal, oil, natural gas. And your electric bill will jump due to charging car battery.
Also those batteries in electric cars do not last life of the car. Replacing them will wipeout any savings at the gas station.
We should not be burning our food or the food that is used to feed farm animals.
Also, ethanol damages small engines.
Fake, fakenews
Sounds awesome what NZ did. Hopefully it will happen here.
E15 and E85 are already on the market.
Absolutely.
My grandfather farmed before big ethanol.
It takes a real idiot to be too incompetent to turn corn into beef or pork and sell that product profitably, or someone too lazy to farm anyway.
Competant farmers aren’t hurt by this, only ethanol processing middle men.
Big Corn/Ethanol drives up the price of livestock food while doing less than nothing for the environment. Big scam.
“...the only way it will be blended is by government coercion.” And subsidization.
Corn ethanol is a huge boondoggle that does nothing for the environment, enriches a few big ethanol producers and corn farmers and wouldnt exist were it not for government mandates and subsidies from seed to pumping it in your fuel tank. Ethanol is a poor motor fuel that reduces gas mileage and in the higher blends being advocated by the ethanol lobby would ruin the engines in millions of automobiles. If the government mandates and subsidies end, ethanol plants across the country will close ss it makes no economic sense ro produce it as a motor fuel.
The question is why 15 and 85 are on the market.
Best laws that money can buy.
Sad.
I needed a new edger every couple of years because of the ethanol. The one I have now I started buying pre-mixed oil/pure gasoline in a half gallon can and haven’t had a problem with it yet.
Ethanol should only be put in a shot glass, never a gas tank.
Not that it will make much difference on this thread, but ethanol burns with less heat than gasoline and corn prices are as low as they have been for the last 8 or 9 years.
