Traditionally people in these positions have been allowed to keep them so they could be useful to the government. These people are not being useful. Revoke then.

Do you realize how many private sector people and firms are doing sensitive work for the government? It would ball everything up if they immediately lost clearance when they left direct govt. service and had to start all over - it can take many months even for lower level clearances.

Certainly, someone who’s proven himself a loose cannon and a leaker should be revoked; and Trump will do that when he sees fit. But to change the entire process would bog down innumerable essential services.

What would be the basis for a security clearance for an ex-employee.

They have no federal government jobs, and are 1 1/2 years past having relevant info.

Pull!

Do you realize that they don’t start from scratch when you go to a new position that requires a clearance? They just superficially check to see if you have done anything bad since your previous clearance.

During my military days I moved around from jobs that required a Top Secret- Crypto, to Secret to Confidential and back.

It only took a couple of days to transition back up.

What they need to do is to tighten the requirements and apply more scrutiny in the first place. As some of the older people here have said, in their day Brennan would never have been cleared to start with. But there are several good reasons for allowing employees to keep their clearances for a defined period after separation.

People don’t realize how much of everything government does now is contracted-out and has been for decades. For a lot of those jobs, people leaving govt. service with valid clearances are prime candidates.

All I know is the experience of my acquaintances today. If they don’t have a job lined up before leaving, they are anxious to get one before the expiration because that makes them more likely to be hired.

Should have been done as soon as anyone of them spoke against the current administration. Brennan and Clapped day of inauguration.

Don’t threaten, consider or “lean toward” pulling those clearances. Just do it.. today.

The basis for all security clearances is “the need to know.” If you need clearance to do your job, so be it, assuming you are not a security risk for some other reason. If you retire and go to work with a defense industry, you may need clearance to develop classified weaponry.

If you are booted from government and get a job jacking your jaws on tabloid tv, you have no need to know anything.

you retain TS active for 2 years after leaving.

5 years for Secret.

It does NOT mean you have ACCESS to TS or Secret information while it is not being used.

So unless these bozos need their clearances for a JOB, they have no right to access classified information and ANYONE passing them cleared info should be fired and prosecuted.

After the 2 and 5 years respectively, that person goes into an INACTIVE state which means they must be re-cleared which in most cases does not require full lifestyle BIs or repolygraph depending upon Gov. approval.

They let top level appointees keep clearances after leaving to help them maximize their value as consultants and lobbyists. Which in itself is an admission of why they should be stripped of clearances as part of exit transition.
