Because I am reacting and not initiating.

I learned to shoot pistols on a Colt 1911 Series 70 in Condition One. I bought a Glock 19 to see what all the excitement was about Tupperware pistols. I like the 19 and found that every time I would draw it from the holster my thumb would “wipe” the non-existent thumb safety. The muscle memory is strong with proper training.
Doesn’t matter. My concealed weapon for city wear is a Ruger LCR in a right front pocket holster loaded with five Speer .38+P 135gr. JHP’s especially formulated for short barrel revolvers. My open carry piece is a Ruger GP-100 .357 Magnum 3” barrel loaded with six 185gr. flat point cast lead bullets that I believe would put a stop to any of the toothy critters I might encounter here in the woods of north Idaho. I practice firing double action with both and have become acceptably proficient at hitting the target in the right place. The GP-100 is a Wiley Clapp special with factory-polished innards that make the trigger pull a joy to experience. It is my favorite handgun after 40+ years of handgunning.
I learned a long time ago that the KISS principle is the BEST principle.
At all times.
You may not have enough time to pull the trigger, you know.
One word: Glock.
Some weapons with safeties need to have the safety engaged when one is chambered....I have some target guns with modified trigger pull and when 1/32nd of an inch pull ain't much safety even with a decent resistance...competence, situational awareness and eternal vigilance come in handy.....;-}
“Youve got to dry fire to decock it before disassembly and it seems even people who should know better perform that action while doing something like pointing at their hand... or worse.”
Having to pull the trigger to disassemble is not one of my favorite glock features. That being said, pointing a gun at your hand and pulling the trigger is NOT the fault of the weapon and not a result of lacking an external safety.
“Nasty. What is it about the design of a Glock that could cause such a horrific injury?”
Nothing about the design of a glock requires people to violate BASIC gun safety rules. The same thing would happen if you point ANY gun you haven’t made sure is empty at a body part and pull the trigger.
A Gunner after My own Heart!
This is MY safety, sir.
Jack;
Certainly any handgun pointed at flesh will leave a mark. case in point- 2003, Fort Benning CRC, a female US Army Major, qualifying probably for the first time since OBC, with an M9, shot herself twice; through the off hand and then the leg upon drawing from the holster at the first pop-up target on the CPQC. She did not deploy. Thankfully.
I told the RO that he should credit her with two hits at least...
Thank you.
That photo was posted in response to a comment I made about carrying concealed with 'one in the pipe'.
Would have been less dramatic (and more honest) if the poster had just said, 'You'll hurt yourself carrying that way.'
FOLKS: Did you know that Twitter, Disqus, and Facebook ALL CENSOR certain conservative firearm and abortion speech? See this: It is worth noting that both Disqus and Fakebook CENSOR any mention of a website,
www.CodeIsFreeSpeech.com
that provides FREE downloads of 3D-printable firearm blueprints. And, since Facebook/Disqus logins are so prevalent for posting commentary across the Internet, they are very effectively suppressing this Forbidden Knowledge almost EVERYWHERE. Please go to the website, download some or all 10 of the free blueprints, and then, repost it to your friends and across the Internet, to the extent you can. Strike a BLOW against Fakebook and judicial CENSORSHIP! Support TWO amendments at once, the First and the Second. Because they WILL try to take them all away!
Of course when it is fully chambered.
I would never use a revolver as my primary concealed weapon. Five, maybe six rounds, and you're out of the fight, because you'll never have time to reload before the fight is over. That's not where I want to be, especially if the bad guy has a semi with lots more rounds. I always carry at least one spare magazine, so I have at least 27 rounds to neutralize any threat. In the end, I rather have too many rounds and not need them all, than have too few rounds and need more.
That said...I have 15 rounds available...you have 27.
Thing is...I've never needed to shoot anyone. Wanted to once, though.
Chances you or I...needing 15 or 27 rounds are very,very slim.
I do have some semi's...but just don't carry them often.
It's a choice............
Yep, that’s why my cop brother convinced me to carry DA .38, he said you never have to worry about a jam and when you’re in a dicy situation, too many things can go wrong. You need the original point and click interface.
Yea, and the natural reaction to attack is to extend the non-dominate arm to fend off the attacker. With the dominate arm free, the CC can be accessed and a round put on target without having to fool around. And, as is often said, the first round on target is almost always the winner against a non professional. Isn’t the expression “FIBS.”
Just another note that the shooter in Cincinnati Fifth Third Bank had his 9mm Taurus jam which probably saved many, many lives. Good for him, bad for defensive use of an automatic pistol.
