Try answering the calls in Chinese or other language they are unlikely to understand. They will actually hang up on you!
Best rant I’ve seen in a while and I’ve posted a few myself. Well done!
I dont do voicemail. I wish there was a busy signal app.
I have an Android, a Galaxy S6........Can you give me a few pointers on how to do that? That would be much appreciated.......thanks

“Settings”
That's going to take care of all the spam calls I've been receiving and rushing into the kitchen to answer the phone only to have them hang up before I can answer............
I was considering subscribing to one of those call monitoring apps which filters out all the telemarketers and scammers before they hit your phone.
But this is ideal, no phone ringing, just notification of a call and if no voice mail message, I can delete and block..........
YAHOO!!!!!
I have twice been robo-called by robots using my own phone number. . . LOL. I thought it was hilarious that they would have such a stupid algorithm.
I will often play with the callers, especially those who call either from "Windows Corporation" (there is no such company) or from the "IRS" (they never call, everything the IRS does is through the US Mails). With Microsoft, or Windows Corporation, since I am sitting there with an Apple MacBook or an iMac, I will let them try to guide me through curing my infected or damaged Windows PC they say has communicated with them about having Windows problems. Got one this morning that claimed they had received a call from my Windows computer saying it had been infected by someone installing "kiddie porn" on you (sic) Windows 10 computer and to avoid immediate arrest you must call XXX-XXX-XXXX RIGHT NOW or press 1 right now! to clean it off of you (sic) Windows computer RIGHT NOW! or you face immediate arrest!" They always start by telling me to go to the Start button at the bottom left, which being a Mac, I cannot find because the Mac doesn't have a Start button. I can keep them going in circles for quite some time until I reveal I am a Certified Microsoft Systems Engineer (CMSE). . . and have owned a cross platform computer company for over forty years and KNOW they are scammers, usually after I have nailed down that they are claiming to actually work for the "Windows Corporation" that makes the "Windows 10 Operating System that runs your computer", Yes, the one in Redmond Washington, D.C., all in a heavy Pakistani accent, from a caller named Bob or John. . .
The IRS people assure me that I am about to be arrested if I don't pay them immediately for back taxes and interest. They know my name. . . but want me to give them my Social Security Number to make sure that they are talking to the right person. I tell them to just give ME my SSN. . . and I will tell them if they have the correct person or not. They say they can't do that due to MY privacy rights. I offer to give them just the last two numbers. . . no, that won't do. Has to be the whole number, and while I am at it, can I provide my mother's maiden name? So, I make up a number from whole cloth. . . that just happens to have the same last four numbers as my real SSN. They LIKE IT. . . and also, like a stupid person give them a fake maiden name for my mother. My mother's maiden name is, for them, the same name as the one Lucy Ricardo used all the time McGillicuddy. . . They like that, as well. Then they tell me I owe back taxes of over $4500 and I could avoid the interest and penalties if I paid right now using Western Union, or a Wire Transfer from my bank. . . or if I would give them my bank account and routing number they could just do a direct withdrawal. At which point I again made up some wonderfully creative numbers for them to attempt to use. . . When he came back and said they don't seem to be valid, I said I think we are losing the connection and couldn't hear him clearly. . . what's that? They were good last week. . . before I got arrested for bank fraw. . . what? No, I can't understand you? Sorry, the connection is getting worse. . . Tell you what, put it in writing and mail it to me at the address you have on file for me and I'll send you a check. No, still can't make out what you're saying. Lots of static on the line. . . so sorry. . . it's getting wor. click. . .
Around here it seems there are a bunch whove bought up blocks of numbers a local area code and then whole exchanges. So you can block a number but they just call the next day with another number that looks local with local area code and same exchange but different last four. So infuriating. I mostly just push the side button in my phone to silence, but sometimes Im expecting a call, but dont know what the number is, I so have to pick up.
Easy way to filter calls
YouMail .com
Have you seen the movie The Creepy Line? It’s on Prime. Google / Chrome / Android. All surveillance all the time.
Don’t have it. But maybe it’s elsewhere. I’ll have to look. Thanks.
[I actually got a call yesterday spoofing my own number.]
I know someone that has happened to.
Yep - we get a lot - don’t answer most that aren’t in our address book and most don’t leave messages....only time I answer a call that doesn’t show in my address book is if expecting a call from an entity not in it. Can’t just block every one because they spoof the system - i’d wager the phone companies could stop the spoofing if they wanted - probably getting paid to allow it.....
Worst robo calls ever!
Since I own a business, when they spoof numbers [using your local prefix] it could be a potential customer or neighbor. Can’t afford not to answer.
In this case, they left 4 different voice mails with 4 different numbers all at once.
Excellent. Raw intel is always a good thing.
