All that does is confirm that they have a live number, and they then sell it to all of their closest friends. Then you calls will grow exponentially.
Same thing with the scam emails that have an "unsubscribe here" button at the bottom. Legitimate businesses will take you off their list. The obvious scam emails will confirm that they have a good email addy and put you on the list to sell to other marketers.
[ No dif from a land line. 5 a day minimum. ]
yup, they use a computerized calling program and spoof the caller ID....
They are basically breaking the law so they can scam your information and steal your identity....
I can handle them and tell them to go to hell, but how many elderly people have been scammed out of their savings??
HA!HA!HA! LOL! I wish I had the expertise to send you a photo of a freaked out cat! Thanks for the rant!
My wife’s phone was getting a dozen Robo calls and scam calls a day so I visited a Verizon outlet and asked for a new phone number. Took 10 minutes and they did not have to open the phone.
One week later and she has had zero Robo calls since the change.. FIXED
I usually give them a 14 digit social security number and then tell em I got to go take a $hit the size of Mohammad’s camel bride
When you get them on the phone, preach the gospel to them.
no they wont. They will pull the plug after 15 seconds.
Caller is not the owner and caller could care less and dont care.
Its all automated and the moment your gone the system plugs another call into their head set.
I know what the background noise is like from a robo and usually hang up before they say a word, unless the machine grabs it
What a way to make a buck listening to people tell you to ESAD,Go to Hell and so on all day long
wait
I had a spoof call indicating my TV provider. Yes, Indian accent.
Then when they got into how much this was going to cost, I naturally became suspicious and hung up
Next time they called I went along with for a while, then put the phone down in the bedroom while they were “readying the fix” or whatever it was. Hopefully wasted their time after thinking they had a suck on the line.
They never called back.
[ WHY do you answer these? If it’s important, they will leave voicemail or text you. ]
They even leave voicemails now too...
I used to have a contact on my smartphone called “Scammers” with a “silent ringtone” that I would add ter spoofed numbers to ....
It ran out of space to store numbers and I had to create “Scammers2” etc etc...
Sick of having to do that...
If I have nothing better to do, I play along, using my best “dodering old guy” voice. I have had them on the phone as long as 20 minutes, “I need to get my wallet” “What where we talking about?” My daughter usually takes care of these things” “Expiration date? Where is that?” “The expiration date is June of whatever year you guys start burning in hell” “Do you really get folks to give you their card numbers?” “Your mother knows you do this for a living?”
[ I got 4 different spoofed calls at 11:00 AM Monday from the IRS is coming to get you crew.
Last time I talked t them, I asked them how many years in prison do you think youll get? Answer: I dont know ]
One time I talked to them started typing on my keyboard and told them: “Well I am not finding my record here in my database as having any problems and I work for the IRS”

They falsify the number that is shown on your caller id. They can put anything they want there. Caller id is now meaningless. The “do not call” list is useless.
What has to happen is the development of a new caller id system. One that cannot be falsified. It would force the transmission of a valid number, along with the country of origin. It would allow the user to send a different number, as a “call this” number, in cases where a large company has many phone lines, but wants you to call only ONE number. That is legitimate.
Requires agreements with all countries. Don’t hold your breath waiting, but this is one valid solution.
With that being said, you CAN download several apps on your smartphone that will literally block the calls to your phone.
I spent two hours this morning looking into them...but it will cost you.
Since most of the calls do not go into voice mail and when I try to call them back, they're bogus numbers, I just let the phone ring and no longer run into the kitchen to answer it. I then block the number on my phone fully expecting another call in the future from another call in my area code district........
Let the phone ring, don't waste your money on expensive apps that allegedly will block these telemarketers and scammers........
I have peace ever since finding NOMOROBO. I use it on my land line. It does not work for all landlines. It is free for landlines, $1.99 per month for cell phones. NOMOROBO has a database of nuisance numbers, so you see a reduction in calls immediately. You report any calls that get thru using NOMOROBO’s dashboard. Even the Unavailable numbers can be reported and stopped. You report it as 000-000-000, include time of call, it’s gone.
I considered getting rid of my land line, but then I’d have to give my cell number out. NOMOROBO solved the problem.
That's all fine and good but what do you do when you have a phone book containing over 150 people? Many of whom do not have text messaging...........
You going to spend days trying to call them just to give them your new phone number?
Not worth it in my opinion.......
Just ignore the calls and respond to voicemails from those you know.........
The latest scam is to call you using your area code and exchange so it looks local & I’m guessing that’s what you’re getting. I get a couple a week on my cell.
Cell phone: I use Norton Mobile Security & it has a call blocker - I use the option to block everything that isn’t in my contact list. If you are expecting calls from people not in your contact list, then this option won’t work for you. This does not keep the caller from leaving a voice mail - usually the scammers hang up so anyone who knows you or has business with you could leave a message and you’d still get it. So far, Norton has worked better than other apps I’ve tried.
Landline: We have a Digitone Call Blocker and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Actually, they are from Pakistan. If I have a few free minutes, I will play along with them for as long as I think I can.
Then burst their bubble. I will use every terrible word I can think of.
I also looked up Pakistani insults on the internet. They especially hate it when you ask if their mommies and daddies let them out of the house to steal from people. They also hate when you make fun of their caste.
I got into an insult trading match with one for nearly an hour. (Rachel would not be pleased!). And after a while, he gave up details of their scam. But it is as bad as you would suspect.
These are all the call center guys from 10 years ago - before that work got passed over to the Philippines. There are rooms full of them. They have nothing else to do. They que up as computer makes the calls. A connected call gets passed to them, hence the pause. This is all done thru the internet, not the phone lines so no charge to them.
They try to get credit card info and immediately pass good data to people in the US to make purchases or create dummy duplicate cards.
No remorse, they are proud of their stealing. It will never end until technology catches up to them.
I haven't gotten a robo call in a long time. They eventually dwindle when you block them ad hoc.
