Maybe everyone is laughing at you, and snickering at you behind your back. But, if you go to a church, you can find friends, help, direction, and spiritual guidance. And when a young man is in distress, he NEEDS that kind of Godly guidance.

Pretty long-winded screed to spread a few common sense tips through - most of us know how to get over them “hurtles”...
That doesn't matter in the least. There are lessons to be learned even from failure.
Common sense to us but common sense ain't all that common anymore. We have high school graduates that are functionally illiterate, unable to balance a checkbook or to do basic house maintenance.
He is obviously written (by Traven) and portrayed (by Bogart) as an almost entirely unsympathetic man of low morals. Even before the "gold fever" strikes, he is shown in one scene (where they talk about their plans once they strike it rich - Curtin wants to indemnify a widow and grow peaches, etc., while Dobbs leeringly tells of how he would go to a bordello) to be wholly different from the other two adventurers.
Significantly, he meets his end at the hands of "Gold Hat," who uses a machete to hack away at him like the snake he is.
It is impossible to view Dobbs as a character to be emulated.

I've read your FReep page, and I'm sorry to see that you in fact failed at this most important issue of life. I guess that's why you did not even go there.

Actually, if you follow the link and read the full article, showing the pictures, the GIFs, the embeds, and all the rest, you would see that the pictures of Dobbs was ONLY for illustrative purposes. He was not used as much of an example, other than to depict a person who is out and down on his luck.
The GIF’s such as “never give up” and “never surrender” are meant to encourage.
Normally, I only provide excerpts on FR to my essays. At that, I get a lot of squeal from trolls. But you can see how FR is not really able to convey anything other than the text content. In a way, it’s pretty sad, because it’s like going to a movie, and only listening the soundtrack, where all the visuals are removed.
I agree that Dobbs is a thoroughly despicable character. Yet, in the beginning of the movie “The Treasure of the Sierra Maudre”, he was a young American man down and out on his luck. It was that image, not the image from the later part of the movie that I wished to convey.

Dobbs looked like the young men of today feel.

There is no upside in marriage for man. None. And you can’t name one. I advise as many young men as I can to steer clear of it.
My husband would disagree with you (as would I). Many, many men are extremely happy to be married. For families with young children, what better than to have a good marriage and raise your children together (as my #1 son and his wife are doing), he also would disagree with your assessment. They really are not. They are tolerating it because they realize they made a mistake and they are just riding it out because they are creatures of the status quo. Or they are afraid of losing everything if they split.

My husband and I are Christians, he would not respect a cheap woman who just wanted to play around. I make more than he does so don’t give me that about a woman in it just for money. I was divorced before and he got just about everything and he was having an affair, I did not fight him for possessions and he is most likely a millionaire now or close to it. You are one bitter man probably caused from one nasty woman, perhaps you need to develop a better taste in women. And I’m afraid with that attitude, you’re probably not going to get the interest of the cream of the crop when it comes to women.

Oh, one more thing.
Know your audience. Most people under 25 years of age, have no idea who the Dukes of Hazzard were, John Wayne, Soopy Sales, they have never heard of Led Zeppelin, Yes, or Traffic, and think that the movie “Inception” is classic old-time Science Fiction.
The odds that they would recognize Dobbs, his role, or the movie role that he portrayed is minuscule.
People like you and I, sure we know who he is, and what he represents. But, you know, this essay isn’t written for us. We have already gone through the hard knocks school of life.
This reminds me of an episode from the 1980’s sit-com “Who’s the boss”, where Tony Danza had an opportunity to make up a television commercial. It was cute, smart, funny and attractive, but turned off his target audience. For he forget the most fundamental lesson; you write for a specific audience.
Posts on FR do not target LGBT activists. Just like the lies bantered about on CNN are designed to feed the liberal fanatics. FOX has a target audience and they cater their editorial narrative towards that demographic.

But thank you for proving my point. You’ve literally listed no upsides for the man. These are all upsides for the woman. Security? No. That’s for you. No need to keep running around? Again that’s more of a you thing. Companionship? A guy doesn’t need marriage for companionship or sexual partners. Dinner ? I don’t even know what that means. A single guy can get his own dinner. And the last thing a man needs is someone nagging him which is what the last two points are really all about.
Sorry, I have steered many young men away from throwing their lives away and I will continue to do so. Not better. Happy, very very happy.

I hope you’re not trying to convince Christian men to birth babies out of wedlock, it’s not God’s way and it’s not good for the kids. It was a better world when children were raised by both parents in the same home. I’m sure I won’t convince you. Check out the statistics after divorce, the man (at least used to) did much better financially than the woman.

I pray you cease trying to convince young men not to marry. My oldest son highly encouraged friends of his to marry and when the neighbor who lived down the street was going to marry his live in lover, my son convinced him to move into their house and not live with her until they were married. He has a beautiful wife, wonderful children and I’m very proud of them. They did it right. They honor each other. Marriage can be a beautiful thing for both sides. Again, I won’t convince you but don’t let your hard heart ruin people who might have a chance at happiness.
