Monitoring Governor Palins pre-ascent to the national political scene was one of the stories that prompted my joining FR while in college. I remember Free Republic being one of the few places online (along with Glenn Becks show, to his credit) to profile the rising star governor: her successes navigating Alaskas international corporate oil scene, her carrying a Down Syndrome baby to term, and before anybody in the media or even GOP establishment knew who she was her qualifications as a viable for runningmate for John McCain. I stayed up all night before the day of the announcement, praying she would be the one.
Fast forward a few years and I attended a special screening of a film entitled The Undefeated - a documentary breaking down the media and establishment elites (including GOP) unhinged distortion and takedown of Sarah Palin and their continued onslaught against her legacy. It was directed by none other than the little known...Steve Bannon.
The ultimate thesis of the film being that as a working class American, as a Christian, a woman and mother, as a highly charismatic and skilled politician with a formidable record of executive accomplishment Palin embodied a volatile convergence of the very forces in our country, which pose not only a political threat to the entrenched power structures of our society, but existential and cultural.
And it was with this insight and understanding by which Steve Bannon helped guide our current President to electoral victory in 2016.
I see a lot of posts at the moment trying to rationalize away the divorce and speculate on the Palins personal lives...Some observations may be valid but these discussions miss the point which is, that her fate (and that of her family) is what awaits *anybody* who dares challenge the establishment especially on that scale. (At least in term of what the establishment intends!) - We are not even told about the extent to which the media and other facets from both political parties worked night and day to drive her out of office, stoke fear in her family and her community (like the Wasilla church burning), how frivolous lawsuits bankrupted her financially, etc...
If you watch video footage of the sprightly, shrewd, and calmly eloquent Palin in the early 2000s at things like the AK gubernatorial debates and things, one can see just how much of a spiritual and psychological toll all thats unfolded since had had on her.
This is what the media wants for Trump and his family too...but luckily our president has the financial and other buffers by which to withstand the attacks, which will likely come even after he leaves office...And in the meantime of course they will do everything in their power to drive him out even during a second term.
In the meantime the wolves will attack the emerging leaders of the conservative movement and NOTHING is off limits: families (children!) , homes, jobs, etc...And its incumbent on everyone to just...be aware. And to view all this in proper context.
Agreed. And I think she paved the way for the Trump Presidency in style and with that pizza shop meeting way back whenever that was.
Prayers for the family.
We should take this latest casualty of the politics of personal destruction as a serious warning. We are facing pure evil, and this is what awaits all decent people if America’s enemies on the totalitarian left ever retake power.
How sad! I didn’t know they had filed for divorce. 31 years and now they are incompatible?
Something extraordinarily sad about this. Through all the abuse and vitriol that family faced from political enemies, the one hope was that the Palins marriage would hold through it all.
I couldnt agree more. A special place in hell awaits those demons who attacked the Palin family.
I wonder if pence is up for the long knives when they come out for him.
I remember hearing an interview on Breitbart with Sarah’s brother. He said he worked on a boat with Todd and he was hard to work for.
Todd is a very tough man but also a very normal man. Sarah while a great politician is also something else—a lot more than a normal man would want in his house under normal circumstances. Sarah now has too many failures likely stacking up against her. Its the same in a house where the man is successful and then the family comes into hard times and the couple divorces.
............
Because he is the weaker of the two in my opinion.
*******
Thanks. May be and if so he also may be tired of the situation.
Things change overtime some for the good and some for the bad.
chat seriously

Chat away....... That’s what the forum is for among other things..
A couple here have complained about her voice since her Convention speech. Guess they couldn't understand what she said but were concerned about the quality of her voice. Strangely most of us here understood her perfectly.
Sarah will always hold a special place in our hearts. She was unafraid to fight the fight and speak out. GOD bless her.

I concur wholeheartedly.
Without Palin Trump would never have happened. The people who supported her were the first to recognize that he represented the same swamp-killing ideology that she has.
I know a guy that worked with Todd Palin on the Stars Earn Stripes TV show and said he was a great guy.
Sometimes two good people can cease being one good couple. I wish them both the best.
I partially blame Katie Couric and the rest of the maggots. Thanks for the post.
She gave a monumental speech at the Republican convention. It was so effective the media and swamp went into overdrive to destroy her. How quickly some freepers have forgotten what she did that night. I, for one, will never forget it. She had the most political “talent” I’ve ever seen and yet she got no support from the Republicans. What a waste.
I had friends who from the outside looked like the perfect couple. Many years ago, I was envious of their marriage because my first husband had run off and left me. Then the wife told me how much she envied me being free to date (I was’t at the time, though I did go out with friends occasionally.).
They divorced 2 years later. Taught me the looks can be deceiving and you never know what’s really going on in some else’s relationship.
SPOT ON!

I love Sarah Palin. I think she was a forerunner to Donald Trump; she set the stage, electrified conservatives, did a grand job of shaking up Obama - that wonderful speech after the Greek columns had come down. Just a world class woman.
I’m saddened by this - and wish her well.
