The trouble with too many fast-food restaurants is that they're often so close together.
It's like car dealers who line up in auto malls, waiting for customers to greet each brand in turn, as if it's a wedding line.
With the fast-food joints, rivals can see what the competition is doing by just looking out of the window. Which makes me wonder what the staff at McDonald's are going to be thinking next year.
You see, one of McDonald's peskier rivals -- Wendy's -- just announced that it's going to start doing something that may seem a touch obvious.
It's going to start offering breakfast at all of its 5,900 U.S. restaurants.
Wendy's describes this as "an incredible growth opportunity."

The Hardees in Charlotte that I used to visit all the time (they had THE BEST hotdogs)...went downhill. It was on the edge of a “hood”...kind of went ghetto. Then I think there was a fake scare that they were using horse meat. I eventually moved away and never picked back up on Hardees. That was years ago. I should give’m another try.
Just for kicks I looked it up, theyre still in business ! 60 + years in the same location.
These things were huge, not very high, but wide, like a coiled up snake. Still hot and the frosting would have formed a crust but still liquid inside, aw man, Im jonsing for one of those .
“McDonalds big breakfast is half the size of Jack in the Box.”
You’re talking about the pre-cooked weight of those menu items or something about sales? I alternate between the two and don’t think I’d agree about the physical size or weight of the scrambled egg breakfast at the respective chains. I like them both, but more often have egg sandwiches at both places.
Yeah, I was very surprised when I went over to our local “corporate” McD’s at about 2pm and there were no breakfast items available (disappeared off the McD’s ordering app 1st). I’ll have to check the 2-3 “non-corporate” (franchise) McD’s that are further away and see if they ditched “all-day” breakfast too.
wow!
I actually enjoy most of Wendy’s menuu over McD, but they tried b’fast about 20 years ago. It was awful. Also their ownership are only slightly to the left of Chick Fil A.
One of the restaurants belonging to our local franchise is a beta testing location for the new software versions going into the kiosks. All Day Breakfast is still alive and well on the latest version so I don’t think it’s going away company-wide. And they do keep fine tuning the actual items that are included on the ADB screen (that may be restaurant-specific and related to cooking facilities and room in the kitchen).
“Hardees is the spot to be in rural NC breakfast scene.”
Hardees was pretty small time around here until McDonald’s had the bright idea of doing away with breakfast biscuits and forcing croissants on the breakfast crowd.
Hardees jumped on that with both feet advertising constantly that “breakfast time is biscuit time”.
My first trip to Hardees I got a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit with a slice of tomato.
Never did eat a damned croissant.
Still love the Hardees breakfast.
Only go to McDonald’s when I need to clean my system out.
When I was working in downtown Phoenix in the late 70’s, a Wendy’s opened up. The line would be all the way out the door!!!!
McDonald’s has the best breakfast.. even better than Chic Fil A.
If on the road and I want to eat fairly healthy... Egg McMuffin hold the butter and cheese.
Ahhh, the good old days...
Because we chat about stuff. That's what we do here.
I've picked up many little tidbits of knowledge reading innocuous threads like this over the years, and I like to talk about food.
But you are right... I don't care what you think.
I go to the Latin Mass, too, and we have doughnuts after the 9:00 AM Mass except during summer. It is a good opportunity for people who may come from 45 minutes away to get to socialize and know each other.
I don’t know what part of the country you are in, but if it is the pacific northwest, I don’t remember seeing doughnut places there, now that you mention it. I thought you were pulling my leg, as doughnuts for breakfast are loved in the northeast, the deep south, the rust belt, and here in the southwest. In Canada (including BC), Tim Horton’s doughnuts are roughly equivalent to McDonald’s as an institution, and I know they serve largely at breakfast because they ran out of jelly doughnuts at 4pm.
Maybe if we had a larger attendence someone would arrange for a mingle and snack session after Mass. But I don’t think they would serve donuts!
We do have a few donut stores besides Krispy Kreme but I really don’t think these are oriented toward breakfast service particularly. More take out.
And when I lived in Victoria, B.C., not the mainland, there was little if any “doughnut” interest there either (they would have preferred whatever is the British equivalent).
I think the poster worded that in a misleading way.
Panera’s spinach and artichoke souffle is very good.
If you want one, you have to go by 9:15.
I don’t care for the other souffles. I only want the spinach and artichoke. Unfortunately, it’s always the first one to sell out.
Wendys has been serving breakfast not far from my home. I’ve had it twice and have no desire to do it again.
Hardees #1 (breakfast only)
McDonalds #2

Wendy’s breakfast is way down the list.
Thanks for the tip. Sounds comparatively healthy. I’ll definitely try it.
I assume you mean 915 am. No problem with me. When I go out to breakfast I usually go pretty early. I usually get up at 4-5 am.
Chick Fil A has a great breakfast
