Responding to criticism that its initial diversity version of Moby Dick was merely a "fish tale in blackface", Barnes and Noble vowed to radically restructure Melville's ponderous tome
To begin with, the whale will no longer be a neutral symbol of unstoppable, remorseless nature. Rather, it will be recast as a sort of immense guardian whale shepherd who protects the more vulnerable members of the "oppressed cetacean community" from the "genocidal depredations of a heartless, hypocritical Christo-fascist patriarchy who would despoil the Earth itself in its hysterical racist fear of
.. The Darkness."

Short read, good satire on the "woke" idiots.

There are even "Woke" video games now. You
must play a female black character - you cannot change it. The President the video game company responded to criticism by saying "tough" and video game players needed to "expand their horizons."
"Woke" exists in every media today (Commercials, Movies, Television Shows, media articles, etc.)
When was the last time you say a Google Doodle that celebrated the achievements of a white male?
It's all around us.

I can’t wait to see what they do to “Bambi” or “The Three Musketeers”.

There is a Barbie version of The Three Musketeers.

Was in a Barnes and Noble recently.
More and more tchotchkes, fewer books.
Reminded me of Borders stores before Borders went bust.

I’m glad that gaming never meant much to me.
What few I have around are hardly loaded.
My favorite on hand somewhere is a Starsky & Hutch driving and shootem up.
I’m sure a revamped woke version of that will appear at some point just because.

I noticed the same on my last visit to B & N. They had rearranged the store, and both mysteries and science fiction now had at least 1/3 less shelf space.

I try to stay out of the big book stores, but last time I was in BAM, the books are dwindling, they are now buying used books and selling them....
Won't be long before they are gone
However, if you are ever in Jacksonville, Florida, I suggest this book store
Chamblins Book Mine!
To: HartleyMBaldwin
Very little backlist anymore. And something else I noticed: the use of cardboard spacers to face out books on shelves. Not good.

If you go, plan for a few hours in the store, it is HUUUUGE. You go in thinking, I'm just going to look at any new hardbacks that have come in....
next thing you know, you're in the back building looking at religious materials, an hour later, you're in the front building dealing with Sci-fi, then to the other side of the building for Action/Adventure, next it's checkout the audiobooks, then any DVD's, etc.
This place has everything! It's really amazing what Ron Chambliss has put together and has been a treasure for many, many years.

Texas-born Half Price Books is busy, especially the flagship store here in Dallas. Some new books there, but theres something for everyone.

That's satire, but this one is real:

+1! You can find some real treasures in Chamblins. I still enjoy the smell of a good book but have no interest in ever going into a B&N again. Admittedly, I buy my books from the Amazon monster.

Good call! Bookmine is the best used bookstore in the country. They used to have a sign in the window of their Herschel store (now closed) that read: “Rare, out-of-print, and non-existent books.” That pretty much sums up their inventory, most of which is housed in a separate, downtown repository.

Next year Ron Chamblin is planning to add another 7000 sf and a cafe to the Roosevelt Blvd store.
