When Sweet Tomato, a Chihuahua, arrived at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco, California, her excessive weight astonished her new friends. Weighing a staggering 30 pounds when she should have only weighed 10, Sweet Tomato's previous owner had fed her a diet primarily consisting of sausage and eggs. The consequences were severe, as she could barely move and required a stroller even for short distances. This excessive weight was detrimental to her overall health, prompting her rescuers to embark on a weight loss journey to ensure her well-being.

It is really easy to over feed little dogs. They only need 250 to 300 calories a day.
So… you’re saying keto didn’t work for her?
I thought this was going to be the triumph of a low-carb diet. Apparently, the sausage and eggs are what made her fat. She must have eaten a lot of them.
There are 530 calories in a Sausage Biscuit with Egg Sandwich at McDonald’s.
We have a chihuahua mix.
He’d look like a fuzzy beach ball with legs if we let him eat as much as he wanted.
Most of the calories would be in the cheese and bread products... carbs too.
Just feed them sawdust with a drizzle of bacon great. Fiber and Fat.
Yeah, we’ll need a doggie bag to go.

I doubt it was the sausage and eggs itself as much as the quantity.
Also, I have to wonder if someone wasn’t sneaking the dog other food as well.
I’ll bet she’s dying for some sausage.
A chi-whopper!
Ha! Good one! :)
Unless it talks, a 30 pound chihuahua isn’t incredible.
A 300 or 3000 pound chihuahua would be incredible.
“diet primarily consisting of sausage and eggs”
The operative word is primarily. I’d bet the farm they fed the dog buscuits and cookies and every high carb piece of crap they ate.
A friend of mine says she feeds her dog hamburger when she means hamburgers and french fries.
I’ve had a couple of small dogs over the years and the daily intake of let’s say kibble was about four tablespoons. And they stayed nice and lean. I never fed from the table either and they never begged and if they got a treat it was like a small whittled carrot. I gave them a little pinche of hamburger, a bite of apple, slice of bell pepper...
Oh they could have launched and gobbled to their hearts content but you have to keep that under control and if you really want to give dogs a treat give him a raw rib bone with a little bit of meat on it. They’ll chew that bone for weeks in that satiates their urge to gnaw.
And take them knuckleheads for walks every day probably 2 and 3 times a day... they love that, and you should love it too.
Unless the sausage had some sort of grain or fruit-based filler, this was a no carb diet. If this pooch became obese on it, this must have a portion-control issue
It is a bit of a struggle to keep the weight on him. He does love it if you scramble an egg for him and feed him bits by hand but if you leave it in the bowl he will sniff it a time or two, try a bite and walk away.
