Winterfyre Norwegian Forest Cats

Philosophy

When our breeding endeavor began, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to gain exposure and knowledge through contacts in both the United States and in Europe. Differing opinions are a staple in any community, and the Norwegian Forest cat lovers/breeders are certainly no exception to this rule. We have learned from observing breeding programs and participating in shows both in the United States and in Europe and have developed our own ideas about the Norwegian Forest cat, but our end goal is ultimately the same as breeders around the globe.

Our philosophy is quite simple, taking into consideration all we have learned as well as what we have yet to experience.

We breed for the preservation of this natural cat and for the joy of the breeding experience. Breeding isn't a hobby, nor is it a profitable venture. It is a serious responsibility requiring time, dedication and most of all ~ unconditional love. For this reason we plan on maintaining a small cattery so we can focus on the joys of raising "individual" kittens rather than "litters" and watching them grow into happy, socialized adults. Our cats are our children, and their health and well-being are of primary importance. We are a cage-free cattery; both our kittens and adults are raised underfoot as members of our family. We do not rehome our adults once their breeding careers are over, nor do we allow our females to have more than one litter per year.

While we were once new to this beautiful breed, so are many others falling under the Norwegian Forest cat's spell every day. We consider ourselves both lucky and privileged to be in a position to breed these beautiful cats. One of the greatest benefits of breeding is watching one of your treasured kittens go to a loving home. It is our goal to find all our kittens a permanent home, where they will be treated as a member of the family, rather than just as a "pet".

As you grow to love the Norwegian Forest cat as we have, either by firsthand experience or through photographs and commentary, you'll soon understand more of the magnetism the Skogkatt commands with his presence and personality. Once they've taken hold of your heart, you'll forever be under their spell.

Winterfyre Cattery holds breeder memberships in CFA (NFC Breed Council Member), TICA (NFC Breed Section Member), NFCFA (Western Regional Director) and Skogkatt International (US Representative). We are also active members of No Dogs Allowed Cat Club (CFA).

Our cattery is tested negative for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), FeLV (feline leukemia), PKD (polycystic kidney disease), HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) and GSD IV (glucogen storage disease IV). All white kittens are BAER (brainstem auditory evoked response) tested for hearing status before they leave our home. We have maintained an annually reviewed CFA Cattery of Excellence© rating since our inception in 1998.

We do not support the introduction of x-colors (cinnamon, fawn, chocolate and lilac) to the Norwegian Forest cat lines.

Our kittens are sold via a written contract. They are not to be declawed or allowed to roam unattended outdoors. Please consider this before contacting us. There are no exceptions to these policies.

Pretty cat. Do they lie around miserably and pant in warm climates, like Siberian huskies?

I guess you'd have to keep the cats indoors, in the south.

I keep him indoors because he terrorizes the neighborhood. He is an evil tom cat.

The website says they won't sell these for outdoor cats, anyway. Beautiful kitties ... I wonder how big they are. There wasn't anything about their size on the website.

I found this photo

in a lap. Not small . . .

My Siberia, Pepper Jim, is about 9-10 pounds. 5 pounds of which is fur. My wife domestic tabby is 13 pounds.

"Not small"

No, but it's very fluffy ... I'd need to know the weight of an adult to have a real concept of the size! My old off-the-streets calico was 12 lbs. at her biggest.

What a beautiful cat. Too bad I'd never be allowed to adopt one since my cats get declawed. I've got a great vet and none of my cats who've been declawed have ever had a problem physically or emotionally. They're still able to mouse (when I have a mouse in the house) and they slap the dog around on a regular basis.

Two stories about the first cat I ever had declawed. I was living in Houston and would occasionally let her outside in our fenced backyard. We could always tell the difference between the front yard chameleons and the backyard chameleons. The backyard lizards were tail-less while the front yard lizards had their tails. She also managed to climb the fence and get on the roof one day when I wasn't looking.

Forgive me for my newbie stupidity, but where did "Viking Kitties" originate?

Also is the a link around here someplace that tells me the meaning of bttt, ping etc.... It took me two months until my 16 year old daughter told me what ROTFLMAO meant!
