More than a few of you have asked me what I thought about this week's episode of "South Park," which parodied the Jonas Brothers and the Disney marketing machine, especially given my rant about the commercialization of the trio and my post today about the new Jonas line of clothing for girls.
I don't get that station but I checked out the full episode on the South Park website. (You can check out a clip above, but just be warned: there's some strong language and cursing by none other than Mickey Mouse.)
I managed to get through the raunchy language and sex jokes in this episode, and let me tell you, the parody was right on the money: Using purity to sell sex to girls, and parents buying into it faster than the dollars can be printed. I think they also nailed the commercialization of the Jonas Brothers. I'd imagine that those guys sometimes feel like nothing more than a musical ATM for the Disney corporation. They open their mouths, and money falls out. I wish the company would remember that they're young men, not a commercial product. Sigh.
I would never recommend that you watch a show filled with foul language and elementary school aged kids talking about sex, but it really is an interesting parody of the Jonas Brothers, with some commentary on Christian consumerism.
so what do you think? If you saw the show, did South Park get it right?

Episode was OK, not one of the better ones. I was expecting to see the frozen corpse or head of Walt to show up as opposed to Mickey...
It was a funny episode, I thought the Election 2008 episode was one of the funniest episodes I’ve seen. But it was funny seeing Mickey Mouse be a total a-hole and kick the Jonas Brother’s ass
It struck me as similar to the episode in which Cartman started a Christian rock band... So I think it lacked some originality while being oh so close to the mark.
Disney is a far-left company which started with that lefty nut, Michael Eisner.
"Woohoo!!!"
the mickey thing was funny i guess. the plot with kenny and the other boys was dead.
Season 1 of Robot Chicken had the big W's frozen head, revived onto a mechaspider that eats Puertorican children
I don’t watch SP too often but find it amusing when I do. It’s vulger, not for children, very bad, but ... ok it’s funny.
I also have 3 pre-teen girls (who are NOT allowed to watch SP) and so I have seen the Jonas brothers movie.
It was a funny, adult satire of it. That’s all.
I saw the show last night.
The Disney Channel is evil, no doubt about it. I have a 14 yo daughter mesmerized by it, ABC “Family Channel” and Nickelodeon.
I keep threating to shoot the TV.
I saw the episode, and it’s definitely adults only.
When did it become allowable to say blow job on basic cable channels?
I hope I don’t get banned for saying it here. Those South Park kids used those words, and they also said that a blow job is when you put your penis in a girl’s mouth. Have standards changed that much that you are allowed to say these things on basic cable? I know HBO, Cinemax, etc. are pay cable movie channels, so they have differing standards.
I also have a hard time getting past the raunchy nature of the show. But they skewer Team Rat just right on this one.
The Disney Channel is the only channel I have blocked in my house.
Reminds me of little ole Butter’s line....”What’s a bj?”
:P
The only real limitations on cable are what the company and the advertisers will allow.
For a while Comedy Central was airing uncensored comedies including the South Park movie at midnight. I guess they figure if you are willing to watch foul mouthed fourth graders you don’t care just how foul mouthed they are.
