It gives me a headache...I avoid it completely.
It tastes horrible, not “sweet” to my taste buds.
Anyway, I don’t consume anything that needs to be artificially sweetened.
I used to use Equal, but did notice that I was feeling more down & sluggish than usual. Now I use Sweet-and-Low exclusively w/no issues.
It’s garbage. Not part of a healthy diet.
yup, same here — instant headache, and I think it tastes horrid.
I never liked that taste of it, so I never ingested enough to get a reaction. I do like Splenda. I even use it when I bake.
It turns into formaldehyde in your gut and causes neurological damage.
I can’t do Splenda, but I do like Stevia and/or Agave
It leaves an after taste and makes me want to eat MORE.
I avoid it.
If you use Sweet and Low, be aware that it contains maltodextrin and sometimes other things besides pure saccharin.
If you want pure sacccharin, you might check out the little tablets (NectaSweet?) which are still available. I can use those with no problem, but most of the time I use stevia.
It can make you blind if you use enough of it. Part of it breakes down to methanol, which even in microscopic quantities is very hazardous to your retinas.
.
Upsets my stomach.
As a diabetic, I need an artificial sweetener. I use Splenda, which has the least after taste and gives me the “sweetness” that I like. Aspartame has a bad taste.
I went on a very strict low-fat diet back in 1995 starting in March of that year and lost some 48 pounds. During that time, I drank a lot of the powdered Slim-Fast, as well as diet drinks, both of which include Aspartame on their list of ingredients. I experienced seizures November 1995 and May 1996. I haven’t had any seizure activity since, as I was put on Dilantin, never went back to that type of diet, and never had a seizure since.

***** “produces side effects like anxiety, blurred vision, depression, etc” ******
Those are exactly the same symptoms I had from finding out my Ex was cheating on me... don’t think the diet coke had much to do with it.
TT
I don’t think any artificial sweetener is safe to use. I don’t drink soda so it’s pretty easy for me to avoid it as the other things they put it into are of no interest to me either.
I drink diet coke. I appreciate having a something sweet which doesn’t have calories. Further, aspartate does naturally occur in our bodies and we do need some of it.
I’ve been drinking it in diet soda for 25 years. I’ve missed one day of work in the last 15 years.
Years ago I put some aspartame sweetener into a very hot cup of tea. The smell of methanol and formaldehyde coming out of that tea as the stuff decomposed from the heat were enough to put me off artificial sweeteners. Even if you drink it in cold beverages, the stuff breaks down in your stomach.
Aspartame is being replaced by other sweeteners, such as sucralose (which doesn’t break down when heated). Why use aspartame?
Also, stevia is now being used as a sugar substitute.
