Fear not, Dukes of Hazzard fans, no one is going to mess with the General Lee. After a forum post on HobbyTalk.com indicated that Tomy Toys, manufacturer of all official Dukes of Hazzard merchandise, would no longer produce scale models of the show's famous 1969 Dodge Charger with its Confederate battle flag displayed on the roof, Warner Brothers has issued a statement to the contrary. The original story reportedly came courtesy of an anonymous worker with Tomy Toys, who said the Stars and Bars livery would be excised from the models beginning on January 1, 2013.
The news incited substantial fan backlash and even a lengthy editorial by Ben Jones, the actor who played Cooter on the classic TV show. But, in its statement, Warner Brothers cleared up the matter by saying, "We were not, and are not, planning to change the design of the General Lee on merchandise. All reports to the contrary have been inaccurate."
American pop culture remains safe for another day.
It wouldn’t be the General Lee without the Stars and Bars. Those who are “offended” by it can leave them on the shelves for those who aren’t. Quite simple really.
The Flag is the country’s history. Rats are only out to knock it off because the South woke up and now vote Republican. They want to punish the south. They have the Bible in their crosshairs as well.
F EM - I ignore them, quite speaking to them, even relatives.
Yeeha!
What’s needed now is a orange 2012 Dodge Charger with the flag on it.
Is that Jeb Bush, top right.
I hope those scowls stay on their face after nov 6.Some real anger issues in that photo.
a number of pissant freepers crying over their torn copy of Uncle Tom’s Cabin
When I was a teen I had (mercifully for only a short period) a ‘55 Chevy 4-door wagon that was painted lime green and sported plain black rims and white-wheel tires.
I think I’d rather have it as my main ride than drive that one LOL.
