Hello Freepers.
Chickensoup is spending money again.
I have to do a tech upgrade. I am buying a tablet! The little ones that people use when they don't want to be tied to the big one.
So, I have decided what tablet to buy, it is an Asus Transformer 10inch. 64K and most likely with the 500 GB in the keyboard.
However there seems to be versions upon versions and no one to talk to. The nice boy at Best Buy kept pointing to the one he had and said that was the one to buy. At Amazon there seems to be an old version and a new version and I cannot really tell what is what.
I do know I want the full version of the Windows.
Has anyone battled through this before? Has anyone purchases this product. Is there anywhere where a nice young man will tell me which one to buy?
Thank you

Buy at Costco, Sams Club or similar stores. They have a return policy that is very generous. When they ask the reason for returning it for full refund, just say you didn’t like it. This way, you can keep trying until you find a tablet you like.
My problem is that the things I am concerned about are things that I will not readily see like speed and storage.
That may be good advice for a single individual. However, using a returns policy for trying out products costs money — and these costs get passed on to other customers.
Asus seems like an odd choice. There are better tablets out there. Also, if you absolutely must have Windows, you are better off with going into the belly of the beast and getting Microsoft's Surface Pro.
Personally I prefer Apple's iPad or the Samsung Galaxy. For a casual user who will focus on multimedia and web surfing, the Amazon Fire has a lot going for it.
I think that’s a terrible idea. Once you use electronics they can’t be restocked. That’s why most stores wont let you return opened electronics. Deliberately buying and returning several to see which one you like best is taking advantage of their generosity and akin to theft, IMHO.
As for choosing one, the differences are probably rather trivial, and the you will probably be fine with most of them. One thing I would look for is a standard size charging port. I had an Asus netbook a few years back, and lost the charger. I never could find another one that fit the port. Now it’s good for nothing but a doorstop.
Web surfing (I might be able to IV FR directly) Email checking, and some Word processing. No rock and roll.
I like windows,
I hate anything to do with Googovernmentogle.
Apple, nah just not my cup of tea.
I looked at the Surfaces and they are way overpriced. As a former IBM VAR in another lifetime, I can vouch that they just don’t do little hardware well.
So I thought an Asus with Windows would fit the bill. Or Tom, Dick, or Harry.
I tend to jam up computer brains so I go for the biggest one I can find for the price.
Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful.

That is interesting information.
Have you seen the returns line at Costco? Every day hundreds of products are returned, yet the store is doing great business selling items cheaply. It's customer service at its best, and that gets them customer loyalty. I had a plasma HD TV fail, one day after the warranty expired. One day! I told the returns desk, the guy told me to bring it in, I did and got a full refund of $1800. I then bought a different TV with more features (two years had gone by) for $1200. That cemented my loyalty to the store.
Trying to be both a laptop and tablet, it misses the mark for both. Slow processor and limited apps compared to Apple and Android.
But maybe it will work out for you.
64k... probably needs more RAM unless it is running DOS
Got great reviews. Does the 64k mean processing speed. for I jam up a quadruple processor.
I like Linux but I do admit that the IPAD is very nicely integrated to the hardware and the apps always seem to work great. It is nice that you can watch videos on the browser without opening the Youtube app, for example
lol
glad its not RAM, lol
______________
Why is all the best newest hardware in Europe and Japan? Do they think that US will take the trash?
My wife has a Samsung, I have a Fire HDX.
For web, email, and entertainment either are superior to a Windows tab. I have a full suite of office, and can print when needed.
I looked at ASUS and decided against.
No googovernmentogle for me.
Its also wrong
I just got a kindle hdx 7” today really cheap. It’s amazing.
I have the Asus T100. Believe wife got it via Amazon. Came with Word, Excel etc and full version of Win 8 (not RT).
I bought it for couch FReeping and using it right now. works great for that. Keyboard is small and not as easy to type on as a regular keyboard -— but workable.
Great value for the money except small keyboard does require me to constantly correct mistakes. Not recommended for serious work where I would use my desktop
