Earth’s magnetic poles are set to swap places - and we're totally unprepared [Isaiah 24]

Earth’s magnetic field surrounds our planet like an invisible force field - protecting life from harmful solar radiation by deflecting charged particles away. Far from being constant, this field is continuously changing. Indeed, our planet's history includes at least several hundred global magnetic reversals, where north and south magnetic poles swap places. So when’s the next one happening and how will it affect life on Earth?

During a reversal the magnetic field won’t be zero, but will assume a weaker and more complex form. It may fall to 10 percent of the present-day strength and have magnetic poles at the equator or even the simultaneous existence of multiple 'north' and 'south' magnetic poles.

Geomagnetic reversals occur a few times every million years on average. However, the interval between reversals is very irregular and can range up to tens of millions of years. There can also be temporary and incomplete reversals, known as events and excursions, in which the magnetic poles move away from the geographic poles - perhaps even crossing the equator - before returning back to their original locations.

The last full reversal, the Brunhes-Matuyama, occurred around 780,000 years ago. A temporary reversal, the Laschamp event, occurred around 41,000 years ago. It lasted less than 1,000 years with the actual change of polarity lasting around 250 years...

Meh. A pole reversal just means Miss Perkytitz won’t fall on her head.

Yes it is - and I pray Harold repented of his crazy false prophesies before he kicked it.

Date setting is just such poison.

Roman_War_Criminal: You realize “Repent” means to change one’s mind in the original text and to “sin no more” is foolishly impossible, strive as we may. Why did Jesus tell people to “go and sin no more” if sinlessness is impossible?

cloudmountain: Ya got me there.

As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.

...

The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?”

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”

- Mark 10

They are not watching and waiting.
They are blind to what’s going on for a reason.
They are asleep.

Does this mean my Boy Scout compass won’t work any more? Bummer.

Does this mean that instead of my chest falling into my drawers, my drawers fall into my chest?

Yes, ma'am. You'll need to wear tinfoil drawers to reverse the process.

Yes, that is the point, isn't it? (Not-- "the sky is falling, the sky is falling", like it's some kind of joke).

When, or if that (magnetosphere falling) were to occur, it would be a big problem for most all earthbound (earth dependent) live forms. End of the road, fried in place almost like being cooked in a microwave oven.

Trouble is, I (this little black duck, anyway...) can't see it happening UNLESS the planet earth were to enter into a wobbling phase not unlike a spinning top, which though at one time was spinning relatively firmly upon a single point axis of rotation (ok- there's "a little" slo-ow wobbling procession going on already) began to under go a series sudden of 'bumps' to the already slightly wandering wobble, to then veer into wide swings of rotational arc not unlike a spinning top which can undergo such things before returning to more nearly regular straight up-and-down rotational orientation.

Changes of that kind, where the rotational axis undergoes ongoing wide-arc "change" would change the flow of liquid magma (containing metals) which movement --in comparison to deep core metals-- would disrupt (I think) the generator of the flow of electrical energy (and actual electrons themselves) from the South pole, which on their way to the North pole hemispherically wrap the earth at some distance away from the earth's surface.

That is what creates (is the substance of?) the Van Allen [anti] radiation belts, isn't it? When, or if generations of that flow were to change/fail that would result in;

Not necessarily "extra" heat coming from the sun, in one sense, but more cooking power arriving on the planet's surface --For Sure.

“There must be some way out of here,” said the joker to the thief
“There’s too much confusion, I can’t get no relief
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth”

“No reason to get excited,” the thief, he kindly spoke
“There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we’ve been through that, and this is not our fate So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late”

All along the watchtower

Thanks BlueDragon. I have never heard of a dragon that is any other color but green. But, since they are mythical creatures after all, it doesn't matter.

And since you are writing about magnetospheres, rotational arcs and Van Allen [anti] radiation belts I will say it again, for my part: IT DOES'T MATTER.

There's not a DARN thing you or I can do about it so why get your shorts in a bunch all hot and bothered about it?

It would matter if the protection provided by the earth's magnetosphere we have long been enjoying (without knowing much about it) were to fail. But as I tried to explain, it's my opinion that is not likely to occur unless the earth also somehow (for reasons unknown to myself) were to begin radically wobbling off-kilter, which would likely mean humans on this planet if, or when things like that were to occur would have other big problems, too.

Who's saying I'm all hot and bothered? You? Your assumptions, and then the judgments you make based much upon those assumptions --suck. Really, they do. I'm not hot about much of anything concerning this...just pointing out how vapid your own remarks were.

Just go to the equator and you won’t notice the change until you flush the toilet.
