NPR was interviewing an official on the ground in Texas and prodding him if Texas needed more Federal assistance. The reporter seemed dismayed when the official kept repeating, "No. We're fine. We have what we need. People are working together."
The media is trying really hard to find some misfortune regarding Harvey that they can lay on Trump's desk.
A family did intervene. But local bureaucrats and LE allowed this to happen.
What are you hoping to find out?
Shame on houstons mayor who downplayed concerns from the republican governor.
They already have - for pulling out of the Paris Climate Accords and the Pacific whatever it was trade agreement.
I’m sure some of them have family. I hate to say it but I could imagine my brother being totally tardy on this and then being shocked, shocked that his mother is sitting in two feet of water.
Shame on the nursing home. Shame on their families. Shame on FReepers who said yesterday the residents could take care of themselves.
I’ve made sure I was present for both fire and general evacuation drills at the facility we’ve had family in. I really recommend attending if possible. It’s a real eye-opener.
Don’t leave out bureaucrats and LE.
There are lots of horror stories with nursing homes.
I think I would prefer a private one if given the option.
I’ve seen what happens with the “big ones” “the best”. Never again.
I never did that! Gosh, I wonder now if they had drills (my mother passed away in 2015). It was a lovely Catholic facility, clean, pretty, etc. The only thing I used to complain about was a door that wasn’t locked consistently. I never once thought of fire...
Incorrect. A family member of the owner that is in FLORIDA is the one that was trying to get them rescued. McIntosh.
The owner took that pic
The Galveston mayor issued a voluntary evacuation.
The Houston mayor told everyone to stay put.
OMW! Horrible. I hope my children never put me in a place like this.
My mother used to tell us she would come back to haunt us if we put her in a nursing “home”. Thank God we never had to.
Yep. I saw people here who fell for it. ..and actually excoriated the law firm employee trying to warn about what was going to happen.
Law firm was on the hot seat because a Judge is involved with the planning.
Why not consider that yeah..you might get 50 inches of rain and the republican might be right
Good point.
The guy called for help
Help came
Trump’s fault

Yes, it is shameful. There was a time when people cared for their aging parents at home. Of course, that was also a time when people didn’t pay strangers to care for their babies in daycare facilities.
Just asking.... what would the roads have been like if Houston totally evacuated? It wasn’t until Thursday when the magnite was fully realized. This thing went to a cat 4 very quickly.
I suspect that they were worried in houston about mass evacuation traffic snarl. I think it happened with Rita . So when the law firm post went viral they had to smack it down fast
Dem Mayor on hook for this decision.
