Just something simple like not adding sugar to cereals and avoiding drinks with sugar brought my A1C from 8.7 to 5.6 in 90 days along with a weight loss of 25 pounds. The only dietary items avoided are pizza and desserts.
I’m willing to bet it’s going to be a lot better, on it’s way to being normal. You’re on the right track. Cutting out the fast carbs (anything white basically) from the diet is the key. Once you’ve got the numbers looking right, you can probably add moderate amounts back in.
Of course, people read ‘studies’ like this and think they need to starve themselves instead, but that will very likely result in hormonal disruptions and decreasing lean mass, which will cause other problems.
Since May, I lost 60 pounds and I am free of type two Diabetes. Another 140 to go.
My goal is to be able to go to Disney world in 2020 and be able to eat a churro with no worries.
just to add, I only eat carbs for lunch.
Dinner is meat and veggies
and breakfast is eggs/bacon or fruit like bananas.
OK my friends, I have helped so many people I can’t count them... Go online or go to SPROUTS...
Buy Natrol (Name Brand) Alpha Lipoic Acid 600mg TR
Time Released.....Take them 2 times a day and don’t tell your DR....My neighbor was taking 20 pills and I gave hime a bottle..6 months later his Dr. told him he cured him.lol
I gave a bottle to a 60 year old taking shots twice a day.
6 months later he takes nothing. Just buy them and take them.
You will be so surprised!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got diagnosed with diabetes 18 years ago. It was manageable until I got hit by a pair of bad staph infections about three years ago that lingered and basically left me immobile for the most part. Both lower legs and feet suffer from venous stasis and lymphedema, which complicates the diabetic neuropathy. There’s no way I’ll be able to get back on a treadmill and jog a mile like I would a dozen years (and about 35 pounds) ago. So, I do what I can do to get exercise in. I need to get my weight down and my body fueled properly before I see how much abuse my body can still handle in a workout. My brain still thinks I’m 20 until I try to do something and my body reminds me otherwise. LOL

Are you type 1 or type 2? If you’re type 2 I’d recommend keto:

Keto for type 1 is bit on the dangerous side, but it’s been done.
I am 74 and asked my doctor to increase my Metformin dosage to 1700 MG daily after I read the below article. He did increase it. BTW, A1C is 6.3 with that dose.
Worlds First Anti-Ageing Drug Could See Humans Live Too 120
My brain thinks I’m 20 too. I got a little happy adding some extra exercises to my weight training routine a couple months ago and my right forearm is still all jacked up.
A recumbent bike worked wonders for me. It’s easy, comfortable cardio. You can even catch up on movies/tv shows while doing it...lol
Not sure if it would work for you with your movement issues though.
Kudos to you for getting past the noise and getting the diet right. It’s so hard with so much misinformation out there. It’s almost like many doctors don’t want us to succeed.
.
“Studies” are all bullshit!
A low cal diet cannot in any way affect the causes of type II diabetes.
The Ottoboni study is the only valid one, and it correctly pins the cause on the use of polyunsaturated oils, and a defficiency of Chromium and Vanadium.

You passed your IQ test!

I am trying to naturally reduce A1C level and decrease Metformin. I think losing weigh, exercise and changing what I eat will get me below 6.0 so I can stop Metformin.
You can go to 20,000 mgs according to my internist.

Give keto a try:

I see threads like this all the time for keto:

I kind of drag my feet a little when I walk now, and I have balance issues going up and down stairs. In fact, I almost did a header coming in from the garage a few minutes ago but caught myself. I have to wear compression stockings on both legs for life because of it, due to edema and blood return in my left leg isn’t normal. If I go more than a few hours without them when I’m out of bed, I get what my wife calls ‘Flintstone foot’ - everything below my calf swells up to the point where it’ll dimple. And the diabetic blisters will get more pronounced. That’s always fun when you feel fluid running down your leg.

I have two good, competent doctors, a mother who was an RN for 42 years, and a wife with a big mouth, so I don’t have much wiggle room when it comes to cheating on my diet or meds. LMAO

The staph infections apparently did damage to the valves - the ‘anti-backup system’ - in my veins. I have diminished return flow in my lower legs, hence the compression stockings. My right leg’s lymphatic system was damaged and the fluid transfer in the tissue is compromised. Both legs have visible venous stasis dermatitis; the right leg is worse, but oddly while that one had deeper damage from the infection, it’s the left leg that has more visible chronic issues.
