A meteorological ‘bomb’ is set to go off along the East Coast, and dangerous cold will soon follow
Mashable ^ | Jan 2, 2018 | Andrew Freedman

An unusually powerful storm is threatening the East Coast of the U.S. this week with heavy snow, high winds, and record-shattering cold not seen in some places since the early 20th Century — if at all.

The storm will be the result of a combination of three strong pieces of atmospheric energy, known to meteorologists as shortwaves.

Think of these shortwaves as protein bars for storm formation. This particular storm, which is already beginning to form off the coast of Florida, will devour enough of them to allow it to become so powerful that it will contain hurricane force winds by the time it moves off the Mid-Atlantic coast late Wednesday night.

Because of the cold air in place ahead of the storm, winter storm watches and advisories for this event have been issued as far south as Florida, all the way northward to Massachusetts, which is nearly unheard of.

Due to climate change...
Real, natural cycles of the sun that result in major climate change — nothing to do with humans or CO2.

We are entering a Grand Solar Minimum. Expect extreme weather and prepare for a dangerous “Little Ice Age.”

Pay attention, because a quiet sun means increased cosmic rays which intensifies fierce storms, earthquakes and volcanoes. The jet stream will continue to buckle. Crops will fail.

Around here it’s milk, bread, and eggs, AKA the French Toast Winter Storm Trinity.

Add chili sauce and chutney...

LISTER: No, I want a triple fried egg butty with chili sauce and chutney.
RIMMER: (Managing to sit down in a chair.) Me too.
LISTER: Well no problem then. Nothing's too good for the deathday boy.
RIMMER: Correct! (Punches air.)
LISTER: Hol, Hol!

HOLLY appears on screen with a nightcap on.

LISTER: Hol, give us something to eat.
HOLLY: You what? I'm jiggered man.
LISTER: Oh come on. You don't sleep.
HOLLY: Course I do. I've got to offline. I can't keep up my full tilt, full power, red hot, maximum pace all the time. I've got to take the odd breather, haven't I?
RIMMER: I want a triple fried egg sandwich with ...
LISTER: With chili sauce and chutney.
HOLLY: You what?
LISTER: It's a state of the art sarny.
HOLLY: It's the state of the floor I'm worried about. Alright, OK.

Several years ago, during a very bad winter storm, I decided to check on my neighbors - both in their eighties.

The snow was about two feet deep. I cleared a path to their door and knocked.

The old man opened the door and said "Hello, my dear. What can I do for you?"

One of the greatest generation.

Stay safe all in harm's way this week.

After decades of a hysterical media telling me that every potential storm is THEN END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT, only to get a few inches of snow or maybe the odd blizzard or two, color me skeptical.

Of course, I'll prepare and stock up on the usual things needed for a day or two without power & a car...food, water, ouzo, ammo, fuel, ammo.

However, the following two relatively recent events have jacked my usual skepticism into outright distrust and borderline hate:

Exhibit #1:

Exhibit #2: Remember Stella?

Neither do I. Except that On the eve of March 2017’s Winter Storm Stella, the National Weather Service got reports that its dire prediction of up to 2 feet of snow for New York City may have been exaggerated — but decided not to change its forecast.

They have things called 10 year events, 20 year events, 100 year events, etc.

Exactly, and New England is right on schedule. I have family photos from 1948 and 1958 showing big blizzards, and I have vivid memories of 1969 and 1978 also being pretty bad in the Boston area. I know there have been others since, but I've been out of the area for many years.

The only thing unusual about this one is that it's hitting in early January, when the other events were in late January and/or early February.

Guess we'll have to blame it on Trump's tax plan. Or maybe Stuart Smalley finally being shown the door in the Senate.

It was 9 degrees F this 5AM, 11 yesterday, kitchen H2O cold side was frozen. Left cabinet door open w/house heat at 71F and a ceramic space heater blowing into open cabinet. Finally got it thawed at 4PM today. All sink cabinets are open tonight.

Get paid in the AM and will go see if any supplies left at stores. Not critical here supply wise but never hurts to have spares.

If it gets real bad then We might have to Wok the Dogs (not dressed out over 180 pounds) <;o)

My main concern is loss of power to run heater blower and TV/Net. Got a gas stove/oven if things get bad. Gas H2O Heater so as long as` the Municipal H2O keeps the pumps running We got H/C H2O!

16 now headed to 12 so they say.

GloBULL warming My A$$!!!
