I have subscribed to NFL Sunday Ticket since 1995 and have cancelled my renewal for 2018. I haven't actually used it like I used to for the past few years. God put on my heart that football was an idol in my life. Being in Alaska the games come early and in the past I would skip morning services to watch games, and go to evening services only. I haven't done that for 5 years, I dvr the game(s) of interest and watch them at my leisure. Stopped watching all together mid-season of 2017 and just didn't miss it.
It not just the kneeling thing either. The game has gone to hell. I haven't watched a Superbowl or a Playoff game in the past 2 years. Between the stupid rules, constant instant replays, anti-gun, pro-homosexual, and anti-Americanism I just wash my hands completely of the whole stinky mess that is the NFL. I still have the MLB package but as I get older sports in general just aren't what they used to be. Everything in sports is just too flamboyant these days and I can't stand the gangster rap, players with tats from head to toe, and the constant politicization.
Good for you. The NFL has had its middle finger extended to America for several years now. There’s no need to buy what they’re selling.
About time !
I congratulate you on your discipline...
I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. The guy at DirecTV didn’t even try to talk me out of it. I plan to drop DTV itself in a few months. There is too little of interest in what’s on to justify the two hundred plus I pay for the service.
Yes, I’m contemplating that as well.
The programming is awful for what it costs.
I’m going to drop DTV and get Direct TV Now lowest package so I can watch ID Channel and AMC. 35 bucks a month is workable.
I didnt watch the Superbowl either. I even started a thread for it LOL for those who didnt watch it. Went to a resto’ with my GF on SB Sunday. The guy beside us kept bothering the other table and kept everyone within earshot of the score, which pissed me off.
Congratulations! It would be nice if it were the old football we all knew, but its not, now.
Wise choice.
RACIST! SAFE SPACE! SAFE SPACE! < /S >
May God bless you because of your determination to put Him ahead of worldly pastimes.
Occasionally enjoying a game ( without being an addict) was just fine. Until NFL started insulting us. Now NFL can GTH! There are many other fine fun things to do in life
Cripes you probably need that extra time just to stay alive and fixing stuff, in Alaska.
All things must pass.
That sounds good. In my case, my HOA provides a cable service, the basic tier of which comes out of my homeowner’s dues whether I use it or not. Without having to stay with DTV for Sunday ticket, I can get my HOA premium channels for about fifty dollars a month over what I’m getting charged for now. I figure I’ll be about a hundred a fifty a month to the good.
I watch College Football unless it is a team mired in controversy of political correctness or criminality. I fear in a few years I will not watch college football.
Hockey is great to watch. Damn it is hard to pull for those Canadians, but they are damn good. It is a great sport, mano a mano with men of skill and speed and heart.
Both my teams stunk this year so I didn’t pay much attention to the GamePass I bought. If you were DVR’ing the games, GamePass does it for you for about half of DTV only you can’t see it live. You have to wait til later. Also the “condensed games” removes a lot of the trash like commercials, halftime, etc and your entire game is shown in 40-50 minutes.
But I hear you about idols. I think God expects you to enjoy life, just don’t make these things an obsession where you neglect more important things. A 4-12 season helps with that :P
In 1985 SMU in Dallas got the “Death Penalty” for recruiting violations and most deservedly so. Many others also deserved it but SMU got caught.
The joke back then was the Dallas Cowboys were going on strike because they wanted to be paid as much as the boys over at SMU. :)
How much does GamePass cost? Fifty dollars a year?
