Did you know that a un-spayed female ferret will die if it doesn’t get bred?......................

The whole argument for rescue is “mill bred dogs are bad, psychologically damaged, prone to genetic problems and are generally poor pets”, while on the other hand rescues play on people’s sympathy to adopt these poor animals to save their lives.

Many localities already strictly limit the number of litters a private breeder, whether clueless, or responsible and knowledgeable about their breed, can produce yearly. Therefore it’s becoming more difficult to find a purpose bred dog or cat.

It should be up to the individual to adopt a rescue, about whose background no one really knows, or to purchase an animal with records of its heritage and of its veterinary care.

There are already many people who actively seek to adopt rescues. Let those who want a purpose bred pet keep their choice.

This law robs Californians of the opportunity to make an informed decision.

I did not. We found one in our yard one time. We called animal control to see what they would do with it, they said they would destroy it, so we kept it. Maybe that is why it did not live that long.

Yep, we had one given to us by a neighbor. Did not know that it was a female and would die. Supposedly it had been fixed.

Got to think this is not Constitutional! Think, yes you can sell cars but only electric cars. Or yes you can sell TV but none over 40 inches?
I understand the goal and even agree with it but I think this is the wrong way.

California welcomes south American cultures that place little value on animal lives, many of which are criminals and gang members. Cock fighting, dog fighting and bull fighting are considered family entertainment.
California bans sale of non rescue dogs.
The black market that will be started by these people will make common puppy mills look like Club Med.

Wow, I guess Cali has solved all of their “important” problems to tackle this one.

Id rather own a rescue rattler than a all too common rescue pit bull.

Are there rescue goldfish and turtles?

I refer to the fish tank at the Super Walmart as Sushi.

It is shallow thinking and pure nonsense. Purebred dogs and cats need good homes, too.

Pet shops and puppy mills in adjoining states celebrate. I’m just sayin’.

very few pet stores in the state sell animals....most are bought directly from breeders or private owners....I don’t think it will affect very much...Me personally thinks that the government should stay out of it...drive an industry to the margins and you get rid of the people that should be involved....this just means most pet sales will be on Craig’s list.

Do you think shelters would participate in that scheme? I doubt it. And why would breeders take their animals to a shelter when they can sell directly to the public?

The law does not prohibit purchasing a pet from a private breeder, nor does it mandate adopting rescue pets. It is up to the individual to adopt a rescue and nothing in the law robs Californians of the opportunity to make an informed choice.

A pet store can get hundreds if not thousands of dollars for specialty registered breeds. So looks like that out the door and in comes unwanted mutts they might get 50 bucks for. The stores will be run out of business.

BTW, our favorite pets are mutts. Right now we have a barn cat for the house, it’s the perfect little friend. And outside we have a partially tamed feral cat.
