"California will become the first state in the U.S. to prohibit the sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in pet stores unless the animals are from a rescue organization.
The new law, titled AB 485, is an effort to crack down on puppy mills. Starting on Jan 1. 2019, California pet shops will only be allowed to sell dogs, cats, and rabbits from shelters and rescues."

What are your thoughts on this new CA law? Will this limit breeder's and Pet Store businesses while hopefully providing necessary homes for more rescue animals? or will it dramatically limit the overall choice and selection for the consumer? ...Thoughts?

It’s a noble idea. But you have to see what breed comprises ninety percent of dogs in shelters. California, if it isn’t already, would become pit bull nation.

It’s another useless law that the twits in Sacramento have foisted upon dimwit Californians.
It doesn’t cover private transactions or out of state purchases.
It will literally kill the Pet Stores unless they can survive selling pet food, dog and cat houses, collars and silly costumes...................

Pet store loopholes:
1. Pet stores take current inventory to shelter, come back in a day or so to buy them back (wink, wink).
2. Breeders take litter to shelter, store buys from shelter. Money laundered to get back to breeders supplying the store.
3. Non-regulated sales.
4. No background checks.
5. No waiting period.
