Archaeologists in Mexico say they have made an important discovery, uncovering a temple to Xipe Totec - the pre-Hispanic "Flayed lord".
Historically, throughout the region, priests paid tribute to the deity by wearing the skin of human sacrifices.
Items relating to the deity were discovered at a site in Puebla state, and believed to date from 900-1150 AD.
Mexican archaeologists say the find may be the earliest dedication to Xipe Totec discovered in Mexico.
Worship of the God, who represents fertility and regeneration, is known to have later spread throughout Mesoamerica during Aztec times.

Wow!
All cultures are equal!
It puts the lotion on its skin...
When will reparations be paid to these pre Aztec people?
Hideous horrible people.
It’s sad that such a wholesome, enlightened culture was decimated by those barbaric Europeans ...
Got one in size 40?

‘La Santa Muerte’ is a human sacrifice cult connected to drug gangs that is growing right now in Mexico and the US.

The barbaric Roman Catholic Spanish who had been fighting muslims for half a millennium and not realizing that all cultures are equal, viewed the priests, the idols, the temples, and the sacrifices as Satanic and wiped them all of the face of the earth.
“iewed the priests, the idols, the temples, and the sacrifices as Satanic and wiped them all of the face of the earth.”
Dunno.
I’ve spent a long portions of my life in the desert SW of the USA (admittedly in various AF bases). Just look at those stone heads in the post above yours. And think of the skull decorations of “Dia de los Muertos” celebrations of Mexican Roman Catholics.
I think it all just got rebranded.
Here is my review of the book, written about 1550-1570.
The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico by Bernal Diaz del Castillo is the only extant first person account of the campaign under the command of Hernando Cortez from 1519 to 1520. The campaign resulted in the discovery and conquest of the Aztec civilization in Mexico. Cortez himself wrote five long letters to Carlos V in Spain. Parts of them are included in this edition to help explain the narrative. But Cortez' letters were essentially reports of a Conquistador commander seeking favor, and explaining his actions, which were mostly extralegal. The entire Conquest was a massive verification of the adage that "It is easier to obtain forgiveness than permission."
Bernal Diaz' account is a first person narrative of the entire campaign, with the amazing detail of a foot soldier who is vitally interested in food, women, weapons, and gold. He includes accounts of two separate expeditions before Cortez.
