Will Avengers: Endgame Be the Biggest Movie of All Time?
Men's Health ^ | 02/11/19 | Ian Sandwell

The Worlds of DC might have just had their first $1 billion hit with Aquaman, but that's a drop in the ocean compared to what's expected from Avengers: Endgame.

Last year, Avengers: Infinity War grossed a huge $2.05bn—the highest-grossing MCU offering to date—and cracked the all-time top five, leaving it looking like this:

Avatar - $2,787,965,087

Titanic - $2,187,463,944

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - $2,068,223,624

Avengers: Infinity War - $2,045,422,411

Jurassic World - $1,671,713,208

Avengers: Infinity War ended on a bombshell for Marvel fans everywhere, even if they could all assure themselves that Avengers: Endgame was on the way. But that has only heightened the fevered anticipation for the movie as the question becomes HOW they will bring back our fallen heroes.

So could all that build-up lead to Avengers: Endgame breaking Avatar's incredible record as the biggest movie of all time? Let's take it one record at a time.

"Avengers: Endgame certainly has some huge box-office shoes to fill with the previous three Avengers films setting new benchmarks for what is possible in terms of opening weekend performance," Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, tells Digital Spy.

The Avengers (aka Avengers Assemble in the UK) was the first movie in history to take more than $200 million in its opening weekend in the US, while Avengers: Infinity War currently holds the record for biggest worldwide opening of all time at a whopping $640.5m.

Avengers: Endgame is opening pretty much everywhere globally around April 26, so that record is "potentially within its grasp", according to Dergarabedian. But will that continue and translate to an all-time record come the end of Avengers: Endgame's theatrical run?

Thanks.

I was thinking it was the same as Men’s Journal, started by Jann Wenner.

FR: OH BOY OH BOY I can’t wait to see this 100x with my whole family right after we get back from our vacation at Disney World buying thousands of dollars in Disney merch!

I've seen every MCU film, this one will be no exception. As for Disney parks, I've been to all but one. Disneyland (original) 4 times, Disney World (Florida) 5 times, Paris once, Tokyo once, Hong Kong once.

And I'm flying to Shanghai Disneyland in three weeks. Snagged a "mistake fare" on Hong Kong Airlines for under $600 round trip...in business class, normally a $4,000 ticket. It's the only way to fly!

I suspect Captain Marvel is going to bomb, and pull Avengers Endgame down with it.

This is a good thing. Movies need to break out of the Marvel rut.

You appear to have caught humblegunner disease. You should get treatment for that. Or , keep your rudeness to yourself.

Christians and conservatives (not mutually exclusive by any means) abandoning the arts, institutions, and halls of power for being too “worldly” has meant pure destruction for our nation and culture as Satanists, other anti-Christian religionists, and Communists have eagerly filled the vacuum.

Now conservatives and Christians have been sidelined in a nation made great by conservatism and Christianity.

I can see advocating not wasting time or giving money to Hollywood, but not out of ignorance and sticking our heads in the sand.

Would love to see Christians and conservatives spending less time being entertained and being consumers, and more time making and reshaping entertainment and being the providers of the best goods and services. But this does not happen without engaging in our culture and society.

Personally, I’m glad to be able to stay abreast of what’s going on in the film industry while reading on FR and getting conservative and Christian feedback.

It’s obvious: anyone who saw “Infinity War” will want to know the ending, as well as millions of others who now want to know what all the hype is about (three movies late). Personally, I thought “Age of Ultron” was one of the best pictures I’ve ever seen, with the final battle scene being one for the ages.

“Infinity War” was really a character study in Thanos and, in fact, a character study in Progressives of all sorts who know how to “manage” creation to as to remove hunger, poverty, etc. However left the stars are-—and maybe they don’t even know it-—the Avengers were on the true side of right in the movie.

Good summary, LS

Finnegan. Politics is downstream from culture, as Andrew Brightbart said. You can't lock yourself away from culture and hope to understand politics.

You obviously have a point, but the observation and understanding of our popular culture is important to understand both the enemy and where we are and are going as a society.

What you are doing here is virtue signaling and needlessly bitching as you seal yourself off from the culture and seem to want to coerce others to do the same.

In the meantime, culture moves on without you and shapes the groupthink of the people.

Better that you (we) stay in the fight than hide from it.

Also, lighten up. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. And nobody likes a sourpuss.

😃

Not virtue signaling at all.

If you don’t get the idiocy if talking about thus crap in our 50’s or more then you’re (not you per se - anyone with a similar lack of understanding) a moron.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

People are born that way.

:)

so....”Truth, Justice, and the American Way” or “With great power comes great responsibility” are not conservative in your opinion.

Fine - that’s your opinion.

Mine is that American comic books have been a great source of national pride and offered a wide range of literary and artistic material to millions of people the world over.

I’ll take Sgt. Rock and Easy company over Apocalypse Now any day. Give me the art of Alex Toth, Joe Kubert, Neal Adams or Mike Grell in every case over Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, or Andy Warhol.

Yes as with most forms of media they tend left, but as with most things worthwhile you have to sift through the dirt to find the gold.

“can see advocating not wasting time or giving money to Hollywood, but not out of ignorance and sticking our heads in the sand.”

Exactly.

It wasn’t 40 years ago.

If we are to destroy the liberal left machine we gave to understand this Jollywood garbage is at it’s core. We also have to not give it money.

I really don’t know who frequents movies anymore. Must be the slow and dumb young people.

Not that it was pure as snow, ever.

Today all the totalitarian propaganda and totalitarian actions are made possible from this machine. How do you think the propaganda arms stay in business? The blockbuster machine.

As far as artistic relevance, artistic relevance comes from a new algorithm, a new graphics card.

Every single one of these movies is a poor remake if Star Wars, which was not a deep film. The bells and whistles improve.

Truth Justice and the American Way is from Superman 60 years ago. The machine I’m talking about has had Superman condemn the American way as evil. What year do you live in, my friend!

The second is meaningless - empty blather. To the extent it is not meaningless, it is 100% ambiguous in terms of values - what one needs to be responsible for.

That’s all fine, but irrelevant to the conversation about the Hollywood propaganda machine.

pull Avengers Endgame down with it.

No way, not after that cliff hanger they left us with.

I know people here on FR complain about "comic book movies"; but, I have found the MC movies to be very entertaining. I started with the first Captain America film and I have followed along with the other Avenger movies. Hubby and I just finished going thru the Captain America/Avenger movies in order, so that he was caught up on everything.

I look at what Hollywood is offering as entertainment and I am not impressed. Mostly, I don't watch movies the way I used to because the are just nasty anymore. Sex, nudity, bad language -- it has gotten boring. So, I watch "comic book" movies and I come away with at least some entertainment.

Individual tastes mean that not everyone is going to want to watch these movies; just like my individual taste does not want to watch something like "The Shape of Water, which won the Best Picture Award last year, didn't it?

So, I don't care if you don't like this type of movie; but, please understand that there are a lot of people who do. I am definitely looking forward to seeing the Endgame movie. And, I am not going to be alone.
