California utility proactively cuts power because of weather
Associated Press ^ | June 9, 2019

Pacific Gas & Electric implemented a controversial practice of cutting power to selected portions of Northern California on Saturday to guard against wildfires as the weather turned very windy, dry and hot.

Electricity was turned off around 6 a.m. to 1,600 customers in parts Napa, Solano and Yolo counties. Just as that shutdown was called off, the utility warned 27,000 customers in Butte, Yuba, Nevada, El Dorado and Placer counties that their power would be cut from 9 p.m. through Sunday morning.

The end of the earlier shutdown was announced around 4 p.m., and the utility said power would be restored in those areas as soon as crews finished checking lines for any weather-related damage.

Conditions ripe for fire — winds, low humidity, dry vegetation and heat — were expected to last into Sunday. The National Weather Service office reported a 71 mph (114 kph) gust on one peak in the region. …

Placer County. My in laws are going to love this.

How are the cops and fire services going to run their operations without electricity?

Or the hospitals or clinics or water treatment facilities or......

Our power has been out in Butte County since shortly before 8 last night. Still off. Really putting a crimp on things. Have a generator. Well water in short supply as of course it runs off a well pump. Luckily I have a hand pump on the well for water if needed...but it won’t run a washing machine.

Weather last night was goregeous...no wind.

We are being conditioned...as to what end...not yet certain.

Guided training.

Get the people used to not having dependable power.

How is California any different than Venezuela these days?

So home generators get turned on how does this help. If I had a small home I’d fire up the gas generator. Seems to me this creates a new fire hazard. Or maybe I think like a man who lives in a red state.

The other problem is that I no have no gas left for the generator and of course all service stations are shut down as the pumps are off...no electric. Jeesh...

Are these “red” counties?

You know they’d never cut power to San Francisco or Los Angeles

Generators are hella loud, really expensive to run, and get the crap beat out of them with long term use. Good for 72-96 hours. After that breakdowns will happen.

Not to mention the cost of trucking all that diesel fuel, unless they’re NG, which I doubt. There’s no NG infrastructure up there. Most homes up in those hills use propane which is also trucked in.

So there’s all that.

The liberal Luddites didn’t think through their hating of electricity.

There is a simple fix to that, just get one of those Solar / Wind Power Generators.

You can usually find them on the shelf alongside the Unicorn Fart powered Generators at Home Depot.

I heard the Pixie Dust fueled Generators clogged up too easily and were discontinued, although Harbor Freight might still have some in stock.

Those are not all red counties. Napa and Solano are in the Bay Area, and Yolo is home to UC Davis.

Could be a big problem for some the wineries, if the shut downs last too long.

This sounds great. More and more, California is resembling a third world dung hole, while rushing faster and faster to implement the Socialist policies that create third world conditions and the huge rich/poor gaps that leftists claim they are against.

My mother keeps asking if I will return to CA once I retire. As much as I would love to, I am not willing to give up my standard of living to live in a vastly overpriced dump in a state that is committing cultural suicide. CA is no longer the place where I grew up. I’m going to Texas.

They are slowly conditioning the bourgeoisie to the coming California Green New Deal (Brown New Deal) and it’s impact.

Eventually the whole state will be homeless and looking for the rest of the country to feed them. I used to believe Americans would never tolerate such failure in government but the propaganda is succeeding in blaming it on the free market and conservatives, which only serves to accelerate disaster.

Thank You Sierra CLub for stopping the needless and harmful clearing of our forests of over densely populated trees and dead and dry timber and brush
