I'm in hurricane alley here in Mobile. I have 40 of the 20 pound (bbq grill type propane) tanks. I can move any number of them around fairly easy. I bought most of the tanks at garage sales for about $3.00 each and had them filled at Costco for $8-9.00 each.
I have a well vented shed away from the house for the propane tanks, only tanks in there.
They'll run their in-plant diesel generators.
They have those. Right?
I know it's California, but they're not that stupid.
Right?
When new lines and new generation are not built, and coal fired generation prematurely retired, insufficient generation may result.
The lines are just a symptom of under built infrastructure.
So, a bunch of gas powered generators is better than the grid?
Interesting.
They are inspecting the lines now...a crew of 260 looking at 800 miles of line. Like for SF to Seattle.... Expected power back within 24-48 hours. Jeesh...
How many fired up the bbq?
How many shot off fireworks for entertainment since they couldn’t watch tv?
How many lit candles to see around the house?
Seems the power company is causing more harm than good.
Solar and batteries works. But is expensive. 60-120k$. I install these systems
Probably just to be Rural Residents in a Socialist Utopia. :)
You dont tie your kangaroo up. You tie your kangaroo down, sport.
I have an older 7.5KW 2 cylinder Kohler that is as quiet as anything built today. While under full load I cannot hear it when I stand 60 feet away.
I *DID* modify the exhaust slightly, but the mechanical noises are still as quiet as can be.
HA! I like that answer...makes about as much sense as anything else. If they are going to do this every warm day....it will be a very very long summer...
I suppose after this we’ll hear PG&E whining because they couldn’t sell enough electric power.
Reminds me of the time we had a major drought
and conserved so much water, the water company
had to raise its rates.
Most electric car owners are smart enough to have a gasoline powered vehicle for such occasions. To those who aren't...well ain't that a shame.
“Why do you still own an regular car?”
“It’s there for when I want to go somewhere.”
“Then why the electric car?”
“It’s for all the money I save with it.”
I was talking about Generators, not Solar and Wind tied to the Grid.
My comment was tongue in cheek or so I thought. Lol
Those two methods obviously work, but as you stated they are still pretty expensive. If things make economic sense they should be utilized.
Think how lost we are when the internet goes down.
True - but I can understand it as a self-defense action...even a freak accident that can be attributed to them and Kalifornia will have their nuts in an even tighter vise. Funny how a State can make laws that make it difficult/impossible to do the safe thing w/o being open to huge lawsuits...kind of like laws where folks had to shovel the sidewalk in front of their place....if they didn’t, they could be fined but anyone hurting themselves couldn’t sue because the natural state was an “act of God”, but if they complied and someone slipped and hurt themselves, they could sue the homeowners butt off because they were responsible for creating the dangerous condition by the act of shoveling...
My a/c went out today. I got home around 6pm and the fan speed is low and the air is cool but not as cool as it was before. The indoor temp is 86 degrees. Lucky not much humidity. New a/c unit coming tomorrow around 10am
Rescue is on the way : )
I gotta say that air conditioning is the greatest thing ever!!!
#5 You are living in Venezuela Cal. Road lanes cut, electricity shut off, water cut backs. High costs for gas and utilities.
Meanwhile the insiders have the taxpayers pay for their homes and cars and expenses.
