The medical examiner has confirmed that 10 people were killed when a plane crashed into a hangar and started a fire at the Addison Municipal Airport Sunday morning.

According to Addison officials, the plane experienced some sort of failure during takeoff before crashing into an unoccupied hangar just after 9 a.m.

The airport was closed for about 45 minutes after the crash as firefighters worked to put out the flames that broke out because of the crash.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the twin-engine Beechcraft BE-350 King Air was destroyed by the fire.

Authorities say all 10 on board were killed in the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of the investigation.

A King Air 350, and Addison Airport. Very doubtful it was a skydiving thing. That’s not a common jumper plane, and that’s a very busy general aviation Airport. The kind of place where all kinds of corporate stuff is in and out. Very very busy place, not good for jumpers.

This is supposed to be a very reliable plane and the Cadillac of that size charter ac. Reports are that right after take off it banked sharply to the right and crashed nose first into the hanger.

Twin. Sounds like classic engine loss at takeoff.

Didn’t a Beechcraft King Air 350 crash just a few weeks ago?

Seems to me but I could be mistaken.

My first guess would be engine failure. When a twin like that loses an engine, the pilot doesn’t have much time to run the bold face items on the engine out emergency checklist.

I took flying lessons out of that airport in the early ‘90s although I didn’t get my license. At the time it was a very busy general aviation airport. I believe it was the second or third busiest single-runway general aviation airport in the country. Sharp bank on takeoff and crashed nose first into a hanger. Sounds like they lost power on one engine and the pilot couldn’t correct. Unfortunately a fairly common scenario with small twin-engine aircraft. One unusual thing about flying in and out of the airport is that the landing pattern is always on the east side of the airport. Controlled airspace exists immediately to the west and south of the airport because of Love Field and DFW. Prayers for all those onboard. The weather in Dallas is very mild today no appreciable wind to speak of. Certainly, nothing to cause any kind of a problem with a crosswind landing.

Why are you trolling this thread? Twice making an unrelated political comment on the deaths is unkind and unwarranted. You’ve been around here for twenty years and certainly know better.

Sounds like failure to immediately correct for loss of one engine.

I never got to take off in a twin but did get to the point of being ready to solo in a single engine. The torque of the engine caused the plane to try to rotate and you had to step on the rudder pedal to counter it on takeoff. I can see where an engine failure on takeoff could get hairy quick on a twin.

Yeah, but you need to consider in a twin the yaw component. So, if one engine dies, it’s like a barndoor hanging off that wing, while the other engine continues pulling. You must IMMEDIATELY correct, including prop feathering and power, or it will spin you in.

The King Air 350 is the largest of the King Air group.
The typical seating is two sets of clubs seats. This would be 8 passengers in the rear, a pilot and maybe a copilot up front. This would add up to ten.
If the airplane was a charter, the crew would be required to perform calculations to determine the airplane could fly with one engine inoperative. The 350 has auto feathering and rudder boost to assist with one engine inoperative operations.
