Kelly McGillis, who played Tom Cruise's love interest in "Top Gun," claims she wasn't asked to reprise her role in the sequel "Top Gun: Maverick."
In the 1986 original, McGillis' character, Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood, is not only Maverick's lover, she's also his flight instructor.
Entertainment Tonight asked the actress if she'd attend any of the film's promotional events, and she was diplomatic yet candid in her response, admitting, "I don't know how to answer that because one, it hasn't happened. Two, if and when it did happen, I would have to assess where I am, what I'm doing, what's going on ... I can't project what I would or wouldn't do in the future. I have no idea because I don't know where I'll be."
She added that she hasn't even seen the trailer for the sequel, noting "Movies are odd things. I don't really keep in touch with anybody. I think I've spoken to a couple of people occasionally, but the truth is, movies are very odd work situations because you have a lot of people who come together from all different parts of the world."
Jennifer Connelly has a role in the upcoming "Top Gun: Maverick," though it's unclear what part she'll play. If she's going to be Cruise's paramour in the popcorn flick, McGillis isn't bitter about it.
McGillis, 62, says she left Hollywood entirely in order to get healthy physically and psychologically.

Personal accountability extends to our appearance as well. Its obvious that McGillis partakes in extremely unhealthy food products and she apparently does not exercise. Imagine what Tom Cruise would look like if he were as undisciplined as she is
I did not realize she made the comments she made about the movie...stand by what I said but obviously she is an ugly libral...beauty is also the mind and intellect.
They got a major upgrade. Jennifer Connelly is the leading lady now. Shes kind of aged the other way in that shes a little gaunt now, but in her day she was absolutely stunning.
Thanks, that’s informative. Fwiw, I never saw “Top Gun.” Maybe because I grew up with Navy pilots, including my father, I wasn’t interested in fiction. It wasn’t glamorous. It was a lot of taking care of little kids while the officers’ wives rallied around a widow.
I remember one in particular, when I was about 10. I spent what seemed like a whole night telling fairy tales to a six-year-old who was staying with us. Her father wasn’t the pilot who died, but her mother was the widow’s best friend. My father was the squadron commander.
she is lovely
If you want to marry someone who won’t age, you’re delusional. Buy a sex doll, and leave women alone.
To whom does she owe an appearance you find appealing? You? Why?
Somebody please post a pic of her from 1986 so we can compare and contrast.
“Kelly McGillis says she wasn’t asked to return for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’”
thank goodness ... she was awful in the original ...
The movie actually touched on the wife dealing with grief. Other than a bit of gay undertones (which have been overblown because of Tarantino riffing on it), it was pretty good.
It’s not a complete record by any means - there are various restrictions and even if the databases are openly available (some jurisdictions interpret “must deliver records” as “we won’t give it to you in electronic form, but you must pay for us to print them out at a huge premium”) there’s going to be time required to reconcile potentially incompatible database formats, etc., etc.
> Why, exactly, should she have been rewarded with a role on a pro-military movie? <
Im not a big one for ideological purges. And for goodness sakes, its only a movie. McGillis had a major role in the first movie. It would have been a nice thing to do to include her in the sequel. As Tax-chick noted, McGillis could have had a minor roll as an analyst, or something like that.
I don’t care how tech savvy the Russian hackers are; their new “ageing” app could never have predicted that!
She should not have been in the first one. Who picked that heifer in the first place?
The issue with her isn't her age. She wasn't invited back a) because she's let herself go (horribly) and b) she's a lesbian.
What kind of part could they have *possibly* given her????
True.
Some women age well, others not so much.
I got dumped after a fairly long relationship when I was in college by a gorgeous girl. Saw a current picture of her a few years back and DAM$. Homely, fat, unrecognizable.
My wife of 33 years is 65 now, weighs within 5 pounds of the day we were married... 5-10 124# after two kids. Other than a few wrinkles she looks terrific. You just never can tell.
I’ve done without “Top Gun” this long, I’m sure I’ll live.
You need to read post 33 and check out the interview she did in 2013. She regretted her role significantly. Why, exactly, should she be rewarded with a cameo on the sequel to a film she so recently expressed regrets working on?
Oh, and why should she be given a cameo which would let the media give her a platform to spew her leftist line on every talk show?
“Back in 1985”
Man,oh man.
But it seems like only yesterday.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light!
Look how she turned out!! 😱 😱 😱
