He was one of six founding fathers to sign both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
President Washington appointed him to be a Justice on the Supreme Court.
His name was James Wilson.
Born in Scotland, James Wilson was one of the first to argue against British dominance.
In 1774, James Wilson wrote "Considerations on the Nature and Extent of the Legislative Authority of the British Parliament," reasoning that since the colonies had no representation in Parliament, the Parliament had no authority over the colonies.
In 1775, James Wilson was commissioned as a Colonel and by the end of the Revolution he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General of the Pennsylvania State Militia.
One of the most educated and prominent lawyers in America, James Wilson was chosen as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, where he spoke 168 times, more than any other delegate except Gouverneur Morris.
James Wilson's speech in Pennsylvania's statehouse yard, October 6, 1787, was, after the Federalist Papers, considered the most influential argument in persuading the States of ratify the U.S. Constitution.
To interpret statutes, James Wilson wrote:
"The first and governing maxim in the interpretation of a statute is to discover the meaning of those who made it."
He added:
"Every prudent and cautious judge ... will remember, that his duty and his business is, not to make the law, but to interpret and apply it."
The first law professor of the University of Pennsylvania, James Wilson wrote in his Lectures on Law, 1789-91, that all law comes from God, being divided into four categories:
"Law Eternal,"
"Law Celestial,"
"Laws of Nature,"

...And our rejection, as nation of people, of God, has become, in popular culture, a rejection of Law.
It was destroyed with CW1. After that the States offered no real check to federal power. Then soon after we got the federal DOJ (started with Grant) IRS, the police state agencies, the New Deal welfare state etc.
Even the Canadians with all their flaws allow votes on secession (Quebec) and allow for provincial interposition to protect civil rights.
It is the ONLY rationally structured government in the worrld.
Everyone else has, at best, a feudal government with a little democracy thrwen in.
Democracy is the WORST form of government ... except for all the others - Winston Churchill
The theory may indeed be wonderful but in practice the government of all western nations is about the same, there’s a high-minded ideal of some kind or another, and in reality entrenched elites run everything and the elected parliament or congress, whatever it is called and under whatever rules it is elected, is just there for show.
As in the dictatorship of communist China or Putin’s post(?)-Soviet Russia.
Whatever they have in Hungary might qualify as the best form of government because it appears that Hungarians are still running their own country.
Do you really think, even with Trump in the White House, that anyone but deep state elites have any real power in your country? Is that what the founders envisioned?
Canada has a much different system in theory but, the joke’s on us, same result. The globalist elites can find ways to subvert any form of government and make it just a show for their own hidden hand.
