This is not America’s first brush with cancel culture, but we can bring it to a better, quicker end if we show courage now rather than hoping it burns itself out.
In 1692, a group of hysterical teenage girls in Salem, Massachusetts, began denouncing girls from rival families as witches. Accusations of witchcraft soon multiplied and spread throughout the town; some of the accused were as young as four years old. Ultimately, 200 people were tried, and dozens executed, for fictitious crimes. The court did not require evidence, as the accusations themselves were considered proof of guilt.
There are obvious parallels between the Salem Witch hunts and today’s cancel culture, especially in the ubiquitous and toxic accusation of racism. The accusation alone smears the accused as guilty, and the denounced party has no way to defend against the charge. Looking back at Salem gives us insight into the conditions that enable cancel culture to take root, why the public tolerates it, and how it might end.

What began with tearing down statues of Confederate generals soon spread to tearing down statues of Grant and Lincoln.

This time the witch hunt shows have spread into every level of government, every level of education and every level of business. Will it stop before half of the country tries to execute the other half?
The left had to destroy all the statues because PDJT proposed a national great American Statue National Park on July 4th during his SD speech If the ugly truth of the roots of the Democrat party were common knowledge, the lie would be exposed and everything would be revealed. Biden’s racist comments had to be hidden and everyone was in on the Biden cover up.
History does repeat itself. Not only are we seeing reflections of the Salem Witch Hunts today, but also the tyranny of Nazi Germany.

The Crucible and the Communists didn’t try to argue that there weren’t Witches or Communists. They claimed that they did not pose a threat and that it was dangerous to listen to accused witches and Communists name others to save their own hide.

As usual, your intellectual integrity shows through. Democrat Harry Byrd stopped the 1920s Klan in Virginia., with a law that was deliberately ignored in the Leftist maneuvers in Charlottesville a few years back.
