SURFSIDE, Fla. (AP) - Demolition specialists finished boring holes and began laying explosives in them Sunday as they prepared to bring down the precarious but still-standing portion of a collapsed South Florida condo building, a top Miami-Dade fire official said. The work has suspended the search-and-rescue mission, but officials said it should eventually open up new areas for rescue teams to explore.
Rescuers will await the “all-clear” after the demolition and then immediately dive back into the task of trying to locate any survivors buried under the rubble, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said. Officials had previously said that the search could resume from 15 minutes to an hour after the detonation.
“We are standing by. We are ready to go in, no matter the time of night,” Levine Cava told a news conference Sunday night.
No one has been rescued alive since the first hours after the June 24 collapse.

How many of the missing have been recovered?
This entire situation is so heartbreaking.
And, I understand a hurricane may be heading that way.
As of Saturday, the confirmed death toll of the partial collapse of Champlain Towers South rose to at least 24, with more than 120 people still unaccounted for.
“between 10 p.m. Sunday and 3 a.m. ET Monday, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a news conference,” per CNN.
Coco the cat was spotted on balcony. They left food and water for Coco.
Are they going to build a memorial parklet on the site, put up a new building, what? Leave it vacant?
So a ‘rescue’ has turned into a ‘recovery’?
Thank you.
May they RIP.
It’s all theater at this point. If you watched the video of the collapse it was apparent that there weren’t going to be any survivors so why endanger the lives of the fire/rescue guys at this point. They have better things to do. Either leave the rubble as it is or get the excavators in there and clean up the mess.

Search and rescue efforts always go on beyond the reasonable time you can expect to actually find a survivor. Rescuers never want to give up and family don't want them to. Someone has to tell them it's over, and it's not an easy thing to do.
They can’t get the excavators in until they drop the still-standing part of the building.
more 411 on the purported tunnel beneath the building?
On top of that, who compensates the people whose condos and their personal possessions are being destroyed? I can see the government saying the building is too dangerous to live in, but it isn't too risky for someone to carefully enter to remove valuables from the standing portion.
This point was also reached back in 2001, after 9/11.
Weeks after the attack on world trade center, it was obvious that no one could still be alive after all that time.
In addition, it was clear that sending men inside the remaining structures would not be practical or humane.
The remnants of the towers were loose, wobbly and ready to collapse. Of course this is very difficult for the families of people who remained trapped inside, but one has to think of the greater good to simply take the whole thing down and move on.

Wow. Fell in on itself. Job well done.
Was it demolished? I was going back and forth from the live feed to FR, went back and saw ashes blowing.
It is gone.
