Amen. I rowed crew in college, and “catching a crab” — burying your oar too deep in the water & losing control of it — was about the worst thing to have happen in practice or during a race. The boat depends on eight rowers and the coxswain working in unison. But you don’t give up; you recover control of the oar and get back in the race! Make apologies after, and do not quit!

Agree. She looked beaten on Saturday/Sunday. The intensity of the coverage made me nervous.
End of the day, she declared herself a/the GOAT, and quit when she had a bad day. GOATs don't do that. She deserves to be ridiculed for her hubris.

That's a good post. But no, you're misreading the room. What FReepers are disgusted with is the complete, intentional ruinization of both amateur and professional athletic competition in this century.
Rather than set the milestones how it happened, it is no mystery whatsoever that this woman has lived in a cocoon of agents, promoters, and coaches for the vast majority of her life and I would add to your correct "burnout" conclusion, that playing to an empty house has to be revealing to one's own psyche.
I think the NBA bubble threw LeBr0n off too -- that feral nitwit knows it's just a damn dirty game, but that's all he knows. Perhaps this young woman is smarter (wouldn't take much).
The only good news in all this is that a lot of these atheletes are scorning the wretched MSM after they finish (or do not finish), as did Simone until just this past couple of hours. Schadenfreude!

Watched today’s competition live tonight and I have a better look at what’s happening. She truly has the yips. I am still shocked at her inability to get her mind straight over the past couple months, but I completely understand her decision now. She is simply not able to perform. It is awful but that makes more sense.
I remember Kim Zmeskal and that’s when I started to think women’s gymnastics was inhumane.
