Famed World War Two general George S. Patton commanded the U.S. Seventh Army in the Mediterranean and European theaters of World War II. General Patton is best known for leading the U.S. Third Army in France and Germany in the wake of the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944. This article contains stories, quotes, timelines, and other pieces of information on one of the most competent and flamboyant generals in American military history.

“I'll say this ; The Third Army alone with very little help and with damned few casulaties, could lick what is left of the Russians in six weeks. You mark my words. Don't ever forget them. Someday we will have to fight them and it will take six years and cost us six million lives.”
Wow— Patton was an amazing American and the more I’ve read about him the more I’m impressed: Born of a military tradition he had 3 relatives killed in US wars (grandfather in the revolutionary war) He was a good student and had 6 years of formal military training His first action was in a punitive expedition to Mexico where he was in charge of a 10 man unit where he personally killed most of the enemy accounted for (hauling 2 back strapped like deer on a car hood) He was a crack shot with a pistol or rifle and he was literally a USA Olympian fencer and his redesign of the Cavalry sword is still used today (limited now) He was nearly killed 2x in combat in WW1 and considered the 3rd best US officer His WW2 record is controversial but legendary
I love Patton.
IMHO, he was murdered by the WWII “deep state”.
Yep, the idea is laughed at by PC modern historians but I read part of Oreily’s book (and others) and it seems plausible.
There was an abiding fear in the US Government in 1945 that should Patton return to the United States from Germany, he would blow the entire FDR-New Deal hierarchy wide open and demolish what was then a very deep penetration of the entire government apparatus by Soviet and pro-Communist agents.
The belief that he was taken out by the staging of an “accident” by an Army transport truck in front of his chauffeur-driven vehicle was not so far-fetched, but effectively covered up at the time.
...from what I have read over the years, Patton was indeed murdered...his staff car was hit (deliberatly...?) by an Army truck (deauce-and-a-half....?) but the driver was never charged nor was the incident ever really investigated if I recall....he is probably rolling over in his grave at the shape of today’s United States Woke Army...troops are being subjected to proper gender pronoun training, from what one web site is reporting...
My Dad, a decorated WWII Vet, now deceased 8/26/2018 at 95, was with Patton’s 3rd Army Corps.
He was a Platoon Sgt in the 101st Infantry, 26th “Yankee” Division Combat Engineers, fought thru countless hedgerows, cities, towns, and villages in Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland, Ardennes and finally, Bastogne. He was shot by a German sniper, in The Battle of The Bulge, while pulling his wounded men from a bloody, snow-covered field after a machine gun ambush.
He received the Eastern European Ribbon w/ 4 Clusters for Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe, along with the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received in The Battle of The Bulge, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the WW II Victory Service Medal.
He always said that Patton was “quite a piece of brilliant work”.
I think it’s so odd an enlisted man who had an unauthorized vehicle, had alcohol on his breath and had just rammed a staff car severely winding a 4 star general was released with;it even a thorough investigation?
Someone with MP experience is this even protocol?
....your dad was qute the soldier...!! may he rest in peace...he, too, would probably take a very dim view of today’s armed forces, especially the U.S. Army....
BTW...it is technically and officially the “European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal”.....
Ike did not like Patton…but the other generals failed and left him no choice
Think of Patton kind of like Trump…said what he wanted to say…but got the job done…
As good a general as Patton was most Americans probably don’t know who Lt. General Maurice Rose was.
Lt.General Rose was one of a very few Jewish officers in the American military who rose to the rank he did. He was the commander officer of the US Army’s 3rd. Armored Division, “The Spearhead’’, one of the hardest fighting American armored units in all of WW2.
When Rose entered West Point he listed his religion as “Protestant’’.
General Rose was also one of few American generals to be killed in action in WW2.
I recommend “Patton: A Genius for War” and “Patton: Ordeal and Triumph”.
I was on active duty from 77-81. I doubt I'd recognize today's military. We had our own challenges during the Carter Administration, at the start of the All Volunteer Force.
I was lucky, and had some great experiences. My ADA battalion was airbase defense, for 3 NATO air bases: Hahn, Spangdahlem, and Bitburg. My first two years at Hahn, I was the Army Liasion Officer in the Wing Command Post. IOW, I'd spend all 4 days in the hole, as I was the only officer besides my Battery Cdr with a TS clearance.
I remained with the battalion during my entire tour. My last battalion commander was a no-nonsense leader. He took us from a C-3 to a C-1, in no small part by kicking out the malcontents and nonperformers, over 60 in all (10% of the battalion).
He could not do that today, that is certain.
Patton said Attack, attack, attack!!.
Ukraine must attack and destroy a carefully selected Russian city
Patton also said....... “Do not take counsel of your fears.”
and “don’t die for your country. Make that Son Of a Bitch die for Russia”
Thanks.
I’ll make a note of the correct name. I shortened it for his eulogy at his funeral, with US Army Color Guard, 21 gun salute, Flag folding and 4 A-10 Warthog Flyover. Quite a ceremony.
