Researchers consider it safe because it doesn't involve the need for any drugs It thought to release the body's innate 'happy' chemicals, called endorphins Acupuncture is also thought to increase blood flow to skin and muscle

How does it work?

Western medical acupuncture is the use of acupuncture following a medical diagnosis. It involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles.

This results in the body producing natural substances, such as pain-relieving endorphins.

It's likely that these naturally released substances are responsible for the beneficial effects experienced with acupuncture.

At breakfast with a friend, I saw an article on acupuncture and carpal tunnel.

My friend wanted to wait until retired for the C-T surgery and looked awful most days, from lack of sleep.

He read the article and said he hated needles but would give it a try.

A week later he looked much better and said he was sleeping, also they told him it would take a few weeks for the full effect and it would wear off after a year or so.

A month later he was a new man!

YES, IT WORKS.

I don’t have any back pain, but I’ve had acupuncture around 10 or so times.
Every time I pass out…

I had a slipped intervertebral disc impinging on a nerve. Severe pain radiated down my left leg. The disc was surgically repaired, but the pain persisted. The surgeon explained that the nerve was damaged and would eventually heal, but that the pain could persist for up to nine months.

I went to an excellent acupuncturist. After three sessions, the pain went away completely and never returned.

I had Bell’s palsy about ten years ago, was told by Dr it would take a year; two weeks’ worth of acupuncture and it was gone.

Yes, it worked and works for me.

Some people just can’t take it, however.

The funny part is the first time the guy said “Did you enjoy your nap?”
I said I wasn’t sleeping. He said “You snore while you’re awake?”

What nonsense. Probably felt relief simply by lying on their side for 15 minutes.

You know what else works?

Snake oil.

Seriously. It works.

Yeah, chronic pain from a torn hamstring for over 20 years until I saw a acupuncturist

Tried it for pain- it did nothing. Tylenol actually worked better than acupuncture.

I suffered from Achilles tendinitis. PT in U.S. had no effect. I traveled to China for work. Five acupuncture treatments totally cured me.

Of course it works. That’s why the AMA and FDA attack it.

It helped me a lot but I am on blood thinners so I haven’t tried in about 18 months since I got started on those pills. Figured AP was out for me.

The practitioner I saw mostly was excellent but she moved. Her successors didn’t seem to quite have the touch. Nothing against them at all.

Every practitioner has a unique touch.

Blood thinners must be respected, good choice.

We had been going to an acupuncturist for back problems. One day a new gal said, “Today we fix your stomach.” I said “OK”, not as cessation of unbelief but as playing along. It took a couple more sessions, but then I went from requiring coffee or lots of hot sauce or several hcl pills, to eating what I liked unaided.

Haha, trouble is quantity and frequency. Without a protocol, suggestions fail.
