DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. — Severe beach erosion from two late-season hurricanes has helped uncover what appears to be a wooden ship dating from the 1800s which had been buried under the sand on Florida’s East Coast for up to two centuries, impervious to cars that drove daily on the beach or sand castles built by generations of tourists.

Beachgoers and lifeguards discovered the wooden structure, between 80 feet to 100 feet, poking out of the sand over Thanksgiving weekend in front of homes that collapsed into rubble on Daytona Beach Shores last month from Hurricane Nicole.

“Whenever you find a shipwreck on the beach it’s really an amazing occurrence.

Someone from Ft. Meyer, Florida (which was devastated by Hurricane Ian) told me that they were taking boats that were damaged and just piling them up in the swamp near there. To be found a century later, I guess!

I visited Padre Island in the early sixties. I remember walking on the keel of a Spanish treasure ship that had blown ashore on Padre Island. The keel was uncovered in a similar storm.

But of course...
“It’s a rare experience, but it’s not unique, and it seems with climate change and more intense hurricane seasons, it’s happening more frequently,” Meide said of the discovery.
Would not the uncovering of a ship on the beach represent receding and not growing sea levels?

If they find a few metal buttons and a coin, the Oak Island boys will be there soon to start another new show. And my wife will probably start recording that too!

So I take it the Oak Island boys never found anything of consequence? Watched a few episodes when I was working away from home but it became too painful.

From the little bit I have watched, what they seemed to have found is a funding source to keep the TV show going. It all looks like a combination of Bitcoin and Pet Rock - level scam.

The ship was buried in the sand but has now become exposed due to erosion. But if the oceans are rising, then how come this ship is exposed?

I’m so confused

Oak island was/is a notorious and original “money pit”. People ranging from Errol Flynn, John Wayne and FDR have sunk money into ventures trying to find the “lost gold”

More money has been poured into that pit than ever taken out.

Watched a little bit of it last night and they were going gaga over what we’d call trash. Lead sheet, odd bits of iron, etc.
But all were indications of “being on the right track”.

Riiiiiight.

Didn’t they also just find a treasure chest with some Warnock ballots in it?

If the hurricane removed sand from on top of the ship, then it wasn’t there when the ship wrecked (or was abandoned), so it’s not MAN MADE CLIMATE CHANGE.
