I'm going to share you story with my packing sons who are occasionally a little cavalier.
Prayers done. I suggest You get a Ruger P Series.
Triple Safety: Sear disconnect, Firing Pin block, Decocker and Hammer block. Also ambidextrous thumb safety and mag release. DA/SA.
.
Is the Springfield an exact duplicate of the .451911A1?
Are the safety features enhanced from the original design?
IIRC Colt produced a series 80 that enhanced the design with a breakbar feature to alleviate misfires. I think...
I sincerely hope you heal without too much difficulty. I certainly have had more than my share of serious injuries, and know the struggle of regaining health even through compromised musculoskeletal integrity. Adherence to a disciplined Physical Therapy regimen can seem daunting at times, but you must push through even to achieve a semblance of less than 100% of previous movement and balance.
Best wishes. The Lord strengthens.
That is a serious wound.
I pray that your surgeon will have great skills, and be a believer in Jesus as Savior, and make a skillful surgical repair.
I pray that you’ll heal quickly, without problems of any kind.
MOST OF ALL, I pray that your relationship with the Savior, Jesus Yeshua will grow stronger, that you’ll trust in Him thru all this, thru your healing and your therapy. And that your faith will grow thru this incident.
(I’ve seen that sometimes in here, people ask for prayer. But I speak to them, asking if THEY KNOW PERSONALLY this risen Lord, and they go quiet. Your bio says you’re a ‘Christian’, I hope that means ‘Born Again’. If you are not ‘saved’ God MAY NOT HEAR YOUR PRAYERS FOR HELP.)
I probably won’t see any further posts from you. May I ask you that you keep me up to date (private reply) on your recovery?
God allowed this because of His GREAT LOVE FOR YOU, for a teaching tool, to draw you nearer; don’t squander it.
It is good that you reported this on FR. We have to learn from such incidents. Many of us have bobbled a gun in the field or have made handling mistakes. I’m sorry you received a grievous wound. Prayers for a complete recovery.
Oh no. Sorry, man. Prayers your way. Glad it’s an accident you’re going to recover from.
Prayers
Praying for you and a speedy recovery. This could have ended much differently for you. I’m glad you are cogent.
Did the police confiscate your weapon? Did they enter your house? Did they take anything? Did they ask you a bunch of questions? Do you mind telling us more about the interaction with law enforcement?
Landed on the hammer i assume. I didnt think that would be possible either

At half cock the hammer should still not be able to accidentally hit the firing pin. Time to have that .45 looked at by a gunsmith.
OMG, kjam! Prayers up. My your recovery be short and complete.
They have the weapon. I can get it back in 72 hours . Everyone was cool… cops, firemen/emt, and ambulance guys. There were about 10 cops. Emt showed up first. We are in oklahoma city.
1911, beavertail safety too.
Prayers up, he’s right, this can’t have felt really great. God made an amazing human body though and it’s capable of incredible things. May God watch over you as you heal.
Agreed. Good advice.
If you don’t watch it you’ll get me going on Remington 600 problems and how they handled that recall, or didn’t. But now is not the time or place and I haven’t had coffee yet.

I used to shoot competitively, combat pistol craft... I got into it after some time involved with Force Battalion duties. Those days are long gone... I shifted to revolvers primarily because there were people in my household that could not or I did not feel comfortable with them juggling around an automatic.
I lowered the common denominator, taught them best practices and relieved the pressure of rote auto-pistol proficiency by using K or J frames. It worked.
I was taught that the only purpose of a pistol is to fight your way to the shotgun, and that was pounded into my thick head at Force Battalion School.
Best wishes for successful surgery and a full recovery. At least it wasn’t your femur!
My FRiend, I know it’s all the whirl right now but please don’t overlook the psychological trauma that your wife and family will have undergone, along with yourself in the days ahead. PTSD is way more common than we think and one doesn’t need to have gone to war to suffer from it.
Speedy recovery of both your body and your mind!
Please keep us updated as you progress on the road to complete recovery.
When cops got there emts were working on leg. They had picked the gun up…. Still in its holster and they had asked my wife to back her car out for more room. They gave okc cops the gun. Cops asking what happened and i told them while emt was trying to straighten foot to align with leg and immobilize it. Some cops behind me put crime tape across garage entrance. Wife was watching. They asked her nicely to wait their car. (Im 63 and she is 69) No one went in house. We live in an upscale suburb house when in okc. Ambulance showed up not long after leg was immobilized. Pretty quickly cops decided it was truly an accident as me loudly expressing my discomfort and answering questions. Ambulance took me. Wife said cops told her the process to get gun back. Apologized for needing to keep it. Took crime tape down etc
This gun was a private purchase in about 95
