Spectacular, beautiful, visible to the naked eye conjunction of planet Venus and Jupiter! The closest approach of Jupiter and Venus will take place on March 1, 2023. In this video I show how this phenomenon looks like one day earlier (February 28, 2023). This conjunction is perfectly visible to the naked eye after sunset (above the western horizon). Jupiter and Venus are the brightest planets of the solar system. It is best to start observing the conjunction about half an hour after sunset.

Look to the west, in the direction of the setting sun, just after sundown tonight.

They will be as close as they get this year tonight.

Cloudy here in the Motor today... Hopefully it clears up for the event!

Don’t see what is so spectacular and beautiful. You can see Venus and Jupiter with the naked eye just about ANY time of the year.
If we could see Saturn and its rings with the naked eye, now THAT would be spectacular.

It’s a great opportunity to show the grandkids. Obvious, easily explained and viewable long before the youngest’ bedtime.

It’ll be a sight to see, for sure — if the cloud cover lets up. We’ve had nothing but that the last few nights running in eastern Iowa.

We were coming home last night around 7:45 pm, and Venus and Jupiter lit up the night sky! It was so beautiful! We enjoyed the view for another 20 or so minutes. If tonight is expected to be even better, you bet we will go look!

As “Evening Star” it shines very bright after sunset, and a few days ago, Venus and Jupiter looked like two droplets of light dripping from the moon. Hard to miss it.

You can even see the moons of Jupiter with a good binocular. And Venus is in crescent.
