I was close to a bison, but on a fenced walk overpass.
That thing was monstrous. I would never willingly walk anywhere near one.
I also rode a bull…once.

It’s about time the way things were going. Idiots just don’t learn from others.
To: Red Badger
Sounds too innocent. Somebody either wanted a selfie or to pet the bison.

It has not been confirmed how close the people were to the animal when it attackedGored by a bison obviously requires point blank bodily contact. A better journalist would have described proximity to the people when the bison initiated its charge.

I’m a city boy but when I was young rode a horse a couple of times at a summer camp.
When I was in my twenties I took one , or rather it took me at a full gallop.
It only takes a second feeling the power of an animal, a fellow member of the mammal family that size to understand where you stand in the muscle food chain of life.

If a White man was gored, you can bet your bippy that would be right up there in the headline to immediately point out the stupidity and danger.

Not definite of course, but that’s my guess as well.

Yep. By weight, humans are extremely weak.
I rode horses before, and you certainly feel their strength at full speed.
I’m 200 lbs, and it doesn’t even phase a horse.

To be fair, these things (like many large animals) can visually disappear in forested areas. In this case, with open ground - it’s up to the visitor to keep their wits about them at all times, and give the big boys their space.
Recall a particularly striking sign at one of the camp grounds at Yellowstone - “Hard shell camping only”. Indeed.

I’ve had bison. It’s a bit gamely and tougher. I still enjoyed it. I was just raised on Safeway ground beef…
Ostrich, deer, rabbit, dove, and fermented shark…I have had.
