More anti-intellectual claptrap. The protection of earth's magnetosphere -- which is what protects us from solar winds and other space radiation -- extends to beyond the orbit of the moon, which means the Van Allen radiation belts don't begin until you're beyond the moon's orbit.
People who are science-ignorant really should second-guess their decision to flaunt that fact.

That the Van allen belts will kill you is a myth. The magnetic field of the Earth is large enough to protect moon missions for humans.
