Synchrony Bank Taking Voice Prints and Facial Recognition "thumbprints"
Synchrony Bank | 2/11/2024 | politicket

Posted on 02/11/2024 10:01:14 AM PST by politicket

Have four retail credit cards serviced by Synchrony Bank.

One of the cards (Crate and Barrel) was locked by them yesterday, with a credit balance of almost $700.

Called to ask why the lock was put in place. They said that a "fraud" lock was put on.

We see no unusual activity on the account and don't use it very often. None of our accounts have a balance owed.

In order to remove it they are demanding biometrics. A five-second video recording showing all angles of the face - that will then be fed through an AI program to generate a digital "thumbprint".

Told them to get lost and just cut a check for the credit balance to my address they've had on file for years, since that is my money - not theirs. I would then close all 4 cards since I don't do business why companies like that.

The ONLY reason why a facial "thumbprint", and accompanying voice print from calling them, would be "helpful" would be to pick me out of a crowd of people. No other reason exists.

They claim that prints can be compared against people known to do fraud - but they wouldn't have prints on those people. They also don't have any previous biometrics on me, so there's nothing to compare to.

Be wary of Synchrony Bank.

We have Crate & Barrel, Relax the Back, Lowes, and JC Penney serviced by them.

It looks like I might have to sue them to get my money back.

Consumers beware...

PS: I've worked professionally in computer security for over three decades.

Our government expects a Tiananmen Square incident before the year is out.

Our government expects a Tiananmen Square incident before the year is out.

The only reason they would expect that is because they plan on pulling some sort tyrannical ploy that is not only UnConstitutional but against the will of the people.

I was driving from Seattle to Miami. 6-7 days of driving time. I stop for gas at a gas station next morning, and my credit card was denied. Luckily I had another credit card I my wallet which saved my azz. I called customer service why my card was denied. They said some accounts were hacked so they froze all credit cards!

Last fall I renewed my California Driver’s license at our local DMV office.

Besides providing my SS #, I had a new id facial shot/picture taken. Next, I had a thumb print done. Then, I did a vision test with and without my distance glasses.

One of the managers, who was standing by me while the above was going on. Told me I had aced everything and to go down to the end counter to pay for my new license and DMV ID.

He thanked me for being a Veteran.

I've had companies lock cards before and send out a new one. I have absolutely no issue with that.

I have never had a company demand facial biometrics from me, especially when it's a $700 credit balance that's not even their money.

Nowhere near Washington, DC - what an absolute travesty with what they're doing to those poor people.

I am extremely vocal online with pointing out how the power brokers of the world are stealing wealth from us slaves - although I do it in a nice manner and never in a threatening way at all.

I had a new id facial shot/picture taken.

Yes - they take a single picture without your glasses and digitize it.

This is different. It's a 5-second video that takes pictures of every angle of your face. Front, left side, right side, up, down, etc.

It's then fed through AI to create a unique thumbprint.

With this thumbprint they could track me and pick me out of any crowd - wherever I happen to be.

I will not let that happen.

I'll sue in small claims first - and possibly lose $700 to avoid them having that data.

Synchrony already had to pay $34 million in a class action last year, and they're being sued again in a class action for installing spy software on devices. California doesn't allow that type of software.

Synchrony used to be GE Capital Retail Bank.

We tax payers bailed out GE Capital to the tune of $139 BILLION during the 2007/08 financial crisis.

But you certainly appreciate my half-in-jest remark: Once banks have all of our photos, it would be child's play for the Govt. to demand to rifle through the banks' digital files, looking for "deplorables."

And as in the novel 1984, the proles far outnumbered the state, but were afraid to be anything but obediant slaves. Same will happen here. The majority of the populace are cowards and spiritually bankrupt.

You are right. We will all be in some databases, whether we realize it or not.

Our financial transactions also are in some databases.

Perhaps off topic, but I went to the ATM to get some cash. I prefer to still use cash for some things. In the line of people at the ATM, every single one,,including me, appeared to be middle aged or older. I suspect younger people simply don’t use cash much anymore, and probably don’t even think about how they are in a database, and are being tracked.

Why have a credit balance? Did you return something or a lot of somethings? That’s why your card got flagged, a very large credit balance.

They weren't all afraid. Many didn't know or care.

The Ministry of Plenty provided them with gin and the lottery.

The Ministry of Truth provided them with porn novels and war films.

Yes, a return of an item. Have no problem with flagging the account. Have a huge problem with demanding facial biometrics over a standard return.

We’ve returned much larger amounts with other cards that were never a problem.

Also -they are now demanding this of those wanting to open up new cards.
