Indeed it is. There is a two-year-old food review of the place HERE
The place doesn't sound like the humdrum beanery the T-H Record describes. Entrees ran from $16 to $20 in 2002.
The original story was good and made incisive points but then got blown out of proportion when it didn't have to be.
Bias? What bias? "Or so says Rush Limbaugh. The conservative commentator . . ." When have you heard a newspaper refer to a "liberal" commentator?
Then we have this little gem: "Local journalist Hank Gross was the first to publish the Nikola's story, posting it on his Midhudsonnews.com Web site after getting a tip from someone not associated with the restaurant. Implying what? That because that someone wasn't associated with the restaurant means that the story is untrue? Wouldn't this be considered one of Journalism's defend-to-the-death "confidential sources"?
Note also that they didn't deny that Teresa didn't recognize anything on the menu, or that she pointed to the chili illustration and said "Give me some of that." (The Horror, The Horror.)
Think I'll drop the T-H Record a note along these lines. I'll feel much better then.
I wonder how much the actual discount was.
"Our local liberal rag"
I don't subscribe to the Times Herald Record anymore. They call me often wanting to know why our subscription was cancelled and I tell them they are toooooooooooo liberal. Besides, I can read it on the computer for free!
Oh, gees, I have to apologize. It's only a crappy, one step away from a health department shutdown FOUR STAR restaurant.

Please notice that the entrees are between 16 and 20 dollars. Now that isn't for a catered meal that the staff no longer has to deal with.
Actually, I'm sort of surprised no one thought of looking up a review.

A SPRING ROLL APPETIZER ALONE IS $10!!!!
"Try a trio of soups and be sure not to miss the grilled shrimp spring rolls ($10) -- a healthy stack of crisply fried rolls that are a sheer pleasure to eat, especially with the tangy, subtly sweet ginger-beet hoisin sauce."
A BOWL OF SOUP IS $19
"On a brisk night it would be difficult to not be charmed by a beef Bolognaise with spinach over fusilli ($16), or perhaps what sounds like a real labor of love -- pork cutlet with apple spaetzle and sage-roasted root vegetables. I could have easily chosen the coq au vin -- the fanciful name for a simply prepared but no less delicious dish of wine-braised free range chicken accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes, broccoline and sweet caramelized shallots. Instead, Nikola's fisherman's chowder ($19) was the ideal choice, satisfying my desire for seafood but a hearty cold-weather meal all in one with its abundance of clams, shrimp, codfish, salmon and green beans transplanted into a deep bowl of buttery, creamy chowder."
I hope the "discount" is counted as in-kind campaign contribution.
One more thing!
"You don't have to compete for a view at Nikola's Restaurant and Bistro, where every seat in the dining room mesmerizes diners with a panoramic view of the Hudson River." (SOUNDS TONY TO ME!!!)
"Sure, the view is nice. With the location at the Newburgh Yacht Club, one would expect it. The dining experience may be enhanced by the view, but as chef/owner and self-proclaimed purist Michael Dederick says, ''It's all about the food.''"

Also, the Newburgh Yacht Club is a fancy-shmancy place. It's one of the oldest in the US, founded in 1885. http://www.burgees.com/OldUSClubs.htm

What man drinks pink crap?
Politics is brutal. What the dems's are crying about now is only about 1/1000th of what they have thrown at Bush for the past 4 years.
Thanks for the pictures. I still like Joe's Bar and Grill better. :-)
Your posts completely destroy this article.
Just a place where the little man that Kerry/Edwards are so and touch with can go grab a bite!
They are hilariously biased. They do not even attempt to hide it.
I've been there twice.
There are a lot of much nicer and more welcome places along the riverfront here that I prefer to give my business to.
I am by no means near the hoity-toity level of SKerry and Krew, but even if I was, I wouldn't give Nikola's the time of day, most especially, after this.
I wouldn't be surprised if he (Michael) opened himself up for free to the rest of the Demoncrat party in this area.
I don't either, but my mother does.
I will read it on line, if I need to, and that's only to check the obits.
My mother will insist on reading it aloud to me while I'm on-line...I have to keep reminding her when she aghast at their bias...They ARE BIASED because THEY ARE liberal.
No, they surely don't.
Even on their letters to the editor pages...they are always printing 5-1 in favor of their lib friends.
And they JUST LOVE THUNDER THIGHS.
