The place doesn't sound like the humdrum beanery the T-H Record describes. Entrees ran from $16 to $20 in 2002.

The original story was good and made incisive points but then got blown out of proportion when it didn't have to be.

Bias? What bias? "Or so says Rush Limbaugh. The conservative commentator . . ." When have you heard a newspaper refer to a "liberal" commentator?

Then we have this little gem: "Local journalist Hank Gross was the first to publish the Nikola's story, posting it on his Midhudsonnews.com Web site after getting a tip from someone not associated with the restaurant. Implying what? That because that someone wasn't associated with the restaurant means that the story is untrue? Wouldn't this be considered one of Journalism's defend-to-the-death "confidential sources"?

Note also that they didn't deny that Teresa didn't recognize anything on the menu, or that she pointed to the chili illustration and said "Give me some of that." (The Horror, The Horror.)

Think I'll drop the T-H Record a note along these lines. I'll feel much better then.

With the modest discount the restaurant provided, the meals came out to about eight bucks each.

Please notice that the entrees are between 16 and 20 dollars. Now that isn't for a catered meal that the staff no longer has to deal with.

A SPRING ROLL APPETIZER ALONE IS $10!!!!

"Try a trio of soups and be sure not to miss the grilled shrimp spring rolls ($10) -- a healthy stack of crisply fried rolls that are a sheer pleasure to eat, especially with the tangy, subtly sweet ginger-beet hoisin sauce."

A BOWL OF SOUP IS $19

"On a brisk night it would be difficult to not be charmed by a beef Bolognaise with spinach over fusilli ($16), or perhaps what sounds like a real labor of love -- pork cutlet with apple spaetzle and sage-roasted root vegetables. I could have easily chosen the coq au vin -- the fanciful name for a simply prepared but no less delicious dish of wine-braised free range chicken accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes, broccoline and sweet caramelized shallots. Instead, Nikola's fisherman's chowder ($19) was the ideal choice, satisfying my desire for seafood but a hearty cold-weather meal all in one with its abundance of clams, shrimp, codfish, salmon and green beans transplanted into a deep bowl of buttery, creamy chowder."

I hope the "discount" is counted as in-kind campaign contribution.

One more thing!

"You don't have to compete for a view at Nikola's Restaurant and Bistro, where every seat in the dining room mesmerizes diners with a panoramic view of the Hudson River." (SOUNDS TONY TO ME!!!)

I've been there twice.

There are a lot of much nicer and more welcome places along the riverfront here that I prefer to give my business to.


I am by no means near the hoity-toity level of SKerry and Krew, but even if I was, I wouldn't give Nikola's the time of day, most especially, after this.

I wouldn't be surprised if he (Michael) opened himself up for free to the rest of the Demoncrat party in this area.
