Clintonista Central ('I don't remember anything like all this live coverage when Bush 41 opened...')

If you were watching cable yesterday, you'd have thought that the capital had been moved to Little Rock.

The media can't resist a gathering of presidents, and never could resist a story line involving Bill Clinton (remember his hospital-bed advice to John Kerry?). Especially when his wife (who's also making the TV rounds, including Larry King and Greta Van Susteren) may run for his old job.

But I don't remember anything like all this live coverage when Bush 41 opened his library, do you? And the ex-prez got an hour with Peter Jennings on "PrimeTime" last night.

(Fox seemed to be spending more time talking about impeachment and Clinton's failure to get Osama, at least when I was clicking over.)

Clinton 42 is an endlessly fascinating character. The publication of his book, and his first interview with Dan Rather, was a huge publishing event. The impeachment section of his library gives the press a chance to talk about Monica again. And the Democrats' second straight loss since Clinton left the White House adds an element of urgency to the debate over what he had that Mondale, Dukakis, Gore and Kerry didn't. Was it his persuasive personality, or a more centrist brand of politics that didn't turn off all red-staters on the cultural front?

There was a funny moment when James Carville said the event was bringing back a lot of memories--and, after this month's election, memories is all the Democrats have right now.

The ceremonies also provided the legacy-minded Clinton with a chance to burnish his reputation by reminding people what they liked about the peace-and-prosperity '90s. And Clinton, who maintained his high approval ratings through the depths of impeachment, has gotten his numbers back up after the pardons scandal that marred his exit from the Beltway.

My theory on this is the media really hated the fact that they were compelled by the people to cover the funeral of Ronald Reagan that they had to give their beloved president equal time.

Of the four presidents, Clinton definitely looked the worse. He looked bad.

I thought that Jimmy Carter looked as bad as Bill Clinton. Then I remembered Jimmy's twenty some odd years older than Clinton. Clinton does look pretty bad doesn't he?

Jimmy's in his eighties and looked pretty good for an 80 year old. Bush 41 looked better though.

No argument here. 41 still looks like he did when he left office. He keeps himself very fit. Jimmy, on the other hand, wallows in liberal angst, that would take a toll on anyone. ;>)

I'm beginning to wonder whether clinton will cease to play a starring role in the media even after he's dead, let alone after he left the presidency.

After all, it took about 30 years for JFK to fade away as a media icon. Clinton may not cease pestering us until all his admirers are dead too.

There was a time when I respected Jimmy Carter. I didn't vote for him, but I respected the fact that he was the president. Then I got older and wiser. The more I know of this man the more I detest him and the fact that this total incompetent became a president of United States of America.

And the more they keep talking about Clinton, the more they'll keep losing...also, when Hillary announces for 08, Americans are gonna have to ask themselves...Do I want Slick back in the White House and the Oval office?..remember, moral issues were the BIG items this past election..not a Clinton strong point..

I think I lost it with Carter when he came on the tube after Desert One. I could see his vascillating nature probably got some good men killed. I would have to say as president he was worse than Clinton.

No Howie, of course we don't. But this is typical of the media. They are democrats and love to cover this stuff to generate interest in the public. They are still mad that they had to cover the Reagan funeral since there was a general, sincere interest by America.

It was about the time of Desert One that I started paying more attention to this detestable human being. What really sent me over the edge with him was a book I read about 5 or 6 years ago concerning the whole Iran/Shah business. The book laid out a pretty good case for our current problems with terrorism being laid at his door. His absolute weakness and vacillation gave the impression that we were a paper tiger. Carter appeased the revolutionaries in Iran, and now we are paying a very heavy price for it.
