The Steelers, good all season, got lucky last night.
Jeff Reed kicked a 33-yard field goal in overtime -- after New York Jets kicker Doug Brien missed twice in the final two minutes of regulation -- to give the Steelers a 20-17 playoff victory at Heinz Field.
Their 15th consecutive win advanced the Steelers to the AFC championship Sunday at Heinz Field against the winner of the Indianapolis-New England game today.
"No question I feel lucky," Steelers linebacker Joey Porter said. "I feel lucky and happy."
Brien, whose 28-yard field goal in San Diego a week earlier won the Jets' wild-card playoff game, could not close the deal for the heavy underdogs last night. With the score tied, his 47-yarder clanged off the low left corner of the goal post with 1:56 left

With this win, Pittsburgh is tied for second (with New England) for consecutive wins in a season (15). Only the Dolphins have more(17).
If you look at the stats, Pittsburgh has more passing yards, more running yards and longer time of possession. Pennington had 1 passing yard more than Roethlisberger. But it was ugly, and we were lucky!

It's basiclly the greatest edge anybody could ever have in any competitive endeavor: inept opposition...

Inept opposition?
Tell that to a Jets fan.

Up here on the Yukon, enjoyed the (win) just the same; and sure hope that was their bad game and not what we will see again nx week.
Remember back when handraty kept sayin they were buildin when they were like 1 and 13.
For some strange reason, the Steelers are the Athabaskan Native's team. I'd be in these back in villages where ya expect to see bear runnin between cabins with scroungy dogs pesterin them; and always see blk&gold logo. Ya know, kinda expected to see seahawk or niner fans up here but all ya see is steeler shirts and hats. None of them know where it started but they all get together for steeler games; and none know what iron city is either.

I remember the bad days. That's what makes it so sweet now.
The Kordell days are just a bad memory now! Todays winner (NE vs. Indy) has to come to our house, and that ain't fun!
BTW, that's so cool, but not surprising, that Steelers fans are everywhere! Even in the Yukon!

What happened to the Jets yesterday at Heinz Field could be called 'The Immaculate Rejection'. Especially that first clanger off the metal! That sounded like Mario Lemieux hitting the post.

On the other hand the Falcons are downright impressive. First time I saw them play and while the talking heads are downplaying the chances of an NFC team winning, they looked like contenders. They do a lot of things very well.
For the Colts fans out there, weather in Foxboro expected to be 28 degrees with light snow.

This leaves me with just one question.
When is Lynn Swann going to announce his candidacy for the governorship of Pennsylvania?

It's basiclly the greatest edge anybody could ever have in any competitive endeavor: inept opposition...Inept opposition is definately a bonus, but that wasn't the case yesterday. To say so is absurd!

And don't worry, that was the "bad" game, although remember:
From a writer in the Post Gazette this morning: The defense (only) allowed 3 points and forced a turnover inside Jets territory that led to seven points. The offense had 150-plus yards rushing, and moved into Jets' territory four out of the last five possessions. As a team, they overcame a punt return and an interception return for touchdowns, a deficit in the fourth quarter, a fumble inside the other team's 30 in the fourth quarter, and the Jets getting the ball first in overtime.
Champions find a way to win games "they shouldn't win." That's exactly what the Steelers did.

Excellent remarks from a fan who has his head screwed on straight!!
