Bush Is Smart on the Border - and the G.O.P. Isn't [Joe Klein/TIME insanity]
TIME ^ | May 21, 2006 | Joe Klein

With their get tough on immigrants stance, Republicans have blown an opportunity to guarantee a GOP majority in perpetuity

In an outdoor press conference held across the street from the Capitol last week, Representative Tom Tancredo—the Colorado Republican who has made a name for himself, momentarily, by bashing illegal immigrants—pretended to be mystified by his more moderate Senate colleagues. "Who are you responding to?" he asked of them. "Nobody," he answered for them. None of the gazillions of citizen-patriots calling his office had expressed anything but dismay over the illegal aliens—a term that makes it sound as if the country were being invaded by Martians.

A read last week that Time has a new managing editor bringing in some new ideas. This must be an example.

Mexican language, culture, mores, lawlessness, endemic corruption, etc. is as alien as any we might discover on Mars. Klein is an idiot.

The president has supported building a wall for over a year now, so if you have problems with the fact that a wall hasn't been built, take it up with Congress. He supported Sensenbrenner's suggestion to build a 700 mile wall, but Congress rejected it. Bush even signed legislation which funded the wall.

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/5/3/115432.shtml

As an aside, although there are complaints that under this administration, employer fines have decreased for hiring illegal immigration, what seems to have gone unnoticed by the border hysterics is that it's because what was once a fine is now a CRIME.

Some of the Governors don't want a fence. Why don't you attack them?
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=48017

And it is within the power of each Governor to call up the National Guard to defend the borders. But some Governors are opposed to that idea too.

And for those who are saying the war in Iraq is making it impossible for our National Guard to protect the country here, there are over 300,000 National Guardsmen and only 30,000 are in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Klein does not know that "illegal aliens" is the actual correct term while he tries to disparage people who use it by connecting it to Martians.

The fact that Klein agrees with President Bush *should* be enough for Bush to question where he stands. It won't be, but it should.

This was something discussed on Fox Newswatch yesterday. Many liberal writers are siding with Bush on immigration while the conservative press is highly critical. That says a lot.

No Joe, not Martians - we're being invaded by Mexicans and 'others'. However now that you mention it Martians might drive better.

How many illegal aliens are in the U.S.?

Okay. This is proving Ann Coulter right, once again. If anyone sides with the president, you have to think hard about your position, because liberals support him, and that probably means he is wrong...:)

As a conservative, the Left only admires you or has good things to say about you when you serve their purpose, like Bob Packwood as a Republican abortion supporter, or John McCain as a damager of the First Amendment and general pain in the ass to Republicans.

Otherwise, that politician is dumb, stupid, or scarily evil, even though they are the exact same person they were before they STOPPED doing things the liberals found helpful.

Your national guard facts are little lies of omission by the media and the left. They try to make it sound like all the guard is over seas.

If that were true then the Dems and the MSM would be leading the charge against amnesty.

I know it! Percentage-wise, very few National Guardsmen are stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan and if Governors were so concerned about illegals, why didn't they put NG on the borders?

Even now, since the president has said he'd station NG on the borders, a few Governors have spoken out and said they don't want the NG on their borders.

Isn't it amazing how all the liberal media is suddenly so supportive of Bush? How all these polls from libmedia suddenly favor him?

The Dims and their media arm are desperate to replace the voters they aborted in the womb since 1972. And this is the only way they can get them.
