Love your tagline. Course, I like C.S.Lewis.
When I sold firearms in a department store a few years ago, the semi-auto version of the AK-47 that we sold was known as the MAK-90, for Modified AK year 1990. They were a cheap Chinese knockoff that looked like they'd fall apart the first time the owner pulled the trigger.
Note that this was in Texas...
I have one of these and the accuracy is better than I am. Some report 2" groups with these at 100 yards. Now, since I am a civilian (now), I would hate to have to explain how I popped a bad guy at 100 yards in fear of my life.
It is stamped "Las Vegas, NV" and made by Arsenal for $800. This rifle does something that no present AR can - fire 122 grain 30 caliber projectiles at $150/1000 rounds. I know of at least 1 AR in 308 now, but I couldn't afford to feed one of those.
Except that they make AR uppers for just that caliber now...
"Just a small point but one I feel compelled to make ,, this mans weapon was most likely a SKS-47 not an AK-47 , AK = automatic Kalishnikov , SKS = semi-automatic Kalishnikov ,,, I doubt he has a class 3 license for a fully automatic weapon... The weapon model is almost always inaccurately reported in the media.."
Minor point, AK stands for avtomat klashnikov or klashnikov rifle. The SKS fires the same cartridge but uses a different action. The AK available to us civilians is semi-auto but still an AK
I know. It was probably "Gimme' my f@#$%^n' AK". Some people are so narrow.
Do you have a link to an AR in 7.62X39? I know they have a couple in 308 (7.62X54). The 308 round and the 223 are both more expensive than the stuff I feed the AK. I considered the AR when I got my AK, but when I put the 223 round next to the 7.62X39, that was it.
Finally, my kinda humor.
Colt used to make them. Olympic Arms and DPMS still make them.
Bushmaster made some for a while, dunno if they still make them. They're growing in popularity again.
That said, *my* AK fires 12ga slugs (or shot).
7.62 x 39 ammo just spiked. Word is our "friends" the russkies are diverting to iran. Go figure.
This is what a yahoo search turned up. The two manufaturers do not list 7.62X39 rifles on their sites. It seems to be an aftermarket/kit thing.
They're backordered 2-3 months last I heard. Get any you can now.
Pumps are slow to reload and subject to operator short stroking under stress.
The Saiga-12 feeds from a 5, 8, or soon 10 round detachable box magazine. And possibly a 20 round "circular mass feeding device" in the future. Even with the kludgy Knoxx tack-on snail mag for the pumps, reloading a pump under stress takes considerable dexterity.
No, that ammo is going to Venezuela and Cuba.
AK 47 ~ Bump!
